How many first downs did the offense have in the first half again?

I don’t remember Blake playing on the field and not getting a push on the d line.

Then as the DC you have to recognize that and change your approach. Not sit there, rush 3 or 4 not bother the QB and let him make easy throws against DBs playing soft.

you are grasping for any straw you can get eh?

the D plan of sitting in soft zone was dogshit. it burned us. we adjusted to man blitzing which worked then got away from it.

and cost us the game even as bad as leavitt was.

we held them to less last year and you bragging about this game?

He isn't responsible for the first half touchdowns?

First half touchdowns doesn't even sum it up. They literally did whatever the frick they wanted on offense for 2 quarters and we had zero answers.

In my opinion, that was far and away the worst half of defense under Baker in all 3 years.

After going aggressive the entire second half he goes soft again the last time they had the ball and they scored a td . Make it make sense

So rushing 3 on Chambliss is just fine? Ok, Burt. How’d that work out?
Unless you have 3 Aaron Donald’s up front, you can’t rush 3 and expect successful results.

I think being out on Blake Baker is very silly, but the defensive gameplan in the 1st half still irritates me. My buddy and I were drunk and able to predict where Ole Miss was going with the ball simply based on how our defense was lined up. Felt like multiple times we had our DBs dropped behind the line to gain, giving them free access hitch routes to the sticks. It did get fixed, but it took too long. It should have been 17-7 at half, and we should have had a much easier path in the 2nd half.

I agree with your sentiment here, though. Trinidad and this offense are very tough to stop, and we did find some ways to stifle them.

It’s one thing for Chambliss but if fricking Reed eats his lunch again we need to face that it’s not a talent but scheme issue with baker

Chambliss was a pick-your-poison type of QB. We decided we wanted him to beat us with his arm and not his legs. Unfortunately, he was able to do that.

Reed is not that type of QB. I think the 1st half game plan for Chambliss would work for Reed, though I think we need a little more pressure on him. I also did not like the times we only rushed 3 at all.

I wouldn’t be surprised if Texas and Georgia hold them to less than 32 this year. They have the guys that can get pressure up the middle and I don’t think OM has anyone that truly scares them.

Other than Chambliss. And Lacy. The TE hurt us pretty bad, too.

You are correct. Now I have a novel defensive plan that likely prevents a touchdown when there is less than 18 seconds or so remaining in the 1st half. I would instruct the defense to immediately tackle and hold onto each receiver. We are penalized for holding but clock likely runs to the point where there is only time for 1 more play. Maybe you have to employ this defense for a second play. Once you are down to 4 or 5 seconds the offense must either kick a field goal or roll the dice on running a last play.

He is great but on Saturday was too conservative / scared of Chambliss getting explosive plays, and kind of got punked. I think they just got caught up in the Houdini aura and overreacted in the game plan. He was also too slow to adjust once it was clear it wasn’t working.

He is good for a couple of these per year against more mobile QBs.

Ebrig3: you can’t win a natty losing the line of scrimmage. We got beat in the trenches on both sides of the ball (excluding third quarter).

Defense did not lose LOS. Ole Miss had 60 yards on the ground.

Giving up 24 in the first half is pathetic no matter who you are playing. You know this. The 2nd half was much better, but giving up 32 is not natty-worthy.

He didn't need to run because he had all day to throw and his WRs had 10-uard cushions. When he did have a designed run though, he had the biggest run of the game for a long TD to seal it where he faked out our entire D.

To me, it falls on the head coach ultimately.

They could stop us and we could not stop them.

Good news is This is game three of the Kiffin era.

He really needs to make the playoff even if we sneak in.

The problem with Baker is he is a good dc. Bad offenses aren’t going to shred him. He also isn’t stopping elite offenses and in clutch situations he doesn’t come through.

Year 1 and 2 he didn’t have the dogs. He does this year.

He is paid to be the best DC in the country so just being good isn’t enough

You guys and your stat manipulations. Yes he made good adjustments at half time but then he abandoned those adjustments when it counted.

Then why are you insisting on giving baker all of the credit for the 2nd half when you don’t even know that was all his decision??????
