Jay's been great here and no one can blame this on him. Some of the transfers have been busts so far, which can happen.
That said, I think Guidry has shown he's capped at about 2 innings, 3 tops. I'd also like to see more of Simpson due to the production he had last year and the expectations he came in with.

They also seem to have little plate discipline
This is the one that stands out to me the most. We have 2nd and 3rd year players regressing. Again, this isn't something I'm gonna bag on Jay for because we've seen him develop guys since he's been here.

Honest question. What can he do that he hasn't tried at this point?
He can make the batters take until they get a strike in the bottom of the 9th when you’re down by 1 run and not swing at the first pitch.

I’m not sure what answers you are looking for with this question. In reality this team probably isn’t good enough to contend for a national championship. It is what it is.
Honestly this is exactly what I'm getting at. This roster isn't good for a variety of reasons. On paper they should be. In reality they aren't. Why is Jay getting all the shite for that? Everyone from here to local/regional/national writers were talking about how deep this team would be preseason. You could argue they should be better.

But Jay’s job is to develop players and win games. He can still do both of those things even if this team isn’t good enough to win a championship. He will continue to help guys get better and hopefully play the guys that give LSU the best chance to win each day.
Yeah, and IMO he's doing damn near everything he can at this point. I mean I love to pull the pitchforks out as much as anyone but I can't even argue anything at this point. He's played multiple guys in multiple spots. He's given plenty of chances to guys and they don't pull through.

Take the team to the batting cages at Celebration Station for a change of scenery
I'd rather take the Delorean to Skip Bertman's

Because he’s the head coach and he put the roster together. He’s not going to be able to put together a championship roster every year, we know that. But when a team has shortcomings and isn’t performing up to expectations, it ultimately falls at his feet.

I get it, the buck stops with the HC
Then there's not really much else to say. He either needs to recruit better or coach better

He could have the team try to do the Jason Giambi golden thong approach. Weird as frick, but he claimed it worked.

Play the young kids and lets see what we have for next year.
People acting like this season is lost are insane. We've played 6 conference games.
Even the years we've snuck into the tournament under JJ, we've been a play away from a super.

You probably need to go 16-8 the rest of the way to be a host. We’ve never advanced when we haven’t hosted

Players have to make the plays. If they don’t have it they don’t have it. Any second baseman in college could have made the routine double play. Maybe he needs to bring in a hypnotist. Trick these guys into thinking they can field and hit. Even the vets aren’t reliable.

Jays been great two years and mediocre to below average for three years. Three out of five years no postseason in Alex Box He’s lucky he’s capitalized very well on his two great years because at this point it’s clear he can’t build a year in year out top program. Take what you can get with Jay “Eli Manning” Johnson,

Jay has tons of rope given his results in 4 years. He'll figure it out. We just might not be as good as we thought this year.

He also told Ronnie Rantz it was his fault for recruiting him, lol.
Nope, Paul Byrd.
quote:
Skip Bertman famously motivated LSU pitcher Paul Byrd by using intense, psychological tactics, telling him during recruiting that the program would fall apart without him. Bertman also told a young Byrd on the mound, "It’s not your fault. It’s all my fault. I never should’ve recruited you," to challenge him, while teaching him to embrace pressure rather than avoid it.

I get it, the buck stops with the HC but shite, what more can he do?
You’re right. He’s done everything he can.
I sometimes question some things, like ever letting Reaves see the field except maybe a midweek, but I realize that Jay knows much more than I do.
So I just sit back and enjoy the ride.
Jay is an excellent coach.
Some fans are ridiculous. Some fans get so upset about their sports teams not doing well that it inevitably ruins their day. It’s a lack of perspective, and priorities in life.

He’s got to lock in on his staters and the rest are going to sit, be disgruntled and transfer after the season. I better not see Ruckert at 2nd ever again this season.

Keep coaching his process the way he did when we’ve won 2 of the last 3 titles.
Now what we can do as a fan base is have a little faith in the man to have them playing at their full potential. And we can stop doubting the man who has more than proven himself.

Jay has to fall out of love with Guidry for more than 5-6 outs. Ruckert needs to sit awhile.
Posted on 3/22/26 at 11:24 am to Srbtiger06
I would start by coaching catchers to block balls and get off their knees and butts with runners on base.
