Huh? RB is probably our deepest room outside or WR.

We have
Berry
Jones
Durham
Gage
Guillory
Guy from Charlotte

6 scholarship RBs is a lot for this day and age.

Not to mention, we have QBs that can really run, which takes more pressure off RBs and opens things up.

We have guys like J. Brown who had really good success in her sweeps and wildcat plays at KSU. Tre Wilson, Watkins, and Wright can be threats here as well.

Its sad when it comes to that with college players. I miss when everyone was hungry in their college days to make the $ in NFL, not satisfied with paydays now. That was the main reason I always like CFB better.
He hasn't quite been the same since the weird endzone injury 2 years back. He looked great prior to that.

I don't really agree that Kiffin and Weiss will incorporate lots of different backs. At Ole Miss, they really liked to feature a guy as the bell cow RB, even before Lacy.

FWIW, I thought this was going to be a big year for Durham to bounce back and build on what we saw in 2024.
Hold strong, ask for an informal meeting to try to mend back the relationship without changing our position.

If it doesn't work, then per his retaliatory demand, he'll be erased from LSU... but #5 won't be.

Uhhhh... it's called buying players? The same thing you did in 2022.

When blue chip players from outside of TX are considering you guys, it's almost exclusively about the money.

You'd think with all that oil money, you guys would have something to show for it since 1939.
Will Ags break the natty drought before it hits 90 years?

Maybe even an SEC title?

CB and DE

This. We could use either one, but it needs to be someone that can make a real push for a spot in the 2 deep.

We need depth more at CB. There's decent depth at DE if that's where Lamar is playing, but I'm not really sure who will be rotating with Prince and Ross.
He looked like a tackling machine at Florida. He had tons of free shots at Sellars and did nothing with them.

07-13. It's when I got into LSU and college football.

I think some people in his circle thought this could be a way to squeeze some money out of LSU.

I figured this had to do with him feeling like he was snubbed in terms of NIL $ while he was here.

FWIW, NIL and our team budget has completely changed in the last few years. Leavitt is probably getting around $4 mil and I doubt Jayden was in that realm while he was here, but it's just how much the market has changed.

For some perspective, sure Jayden didn't get nearly what some QBs are getting now, but look at guys 10 years ago. Fournette didn't officially get anything, neither did Jamal Adams, Arden Key, Darrius Guice, TM7, PP7, countless other NFL players AND the entire 2019 team.

Basically just a word salad, but I'm happy he left it where he did. I figured he'd make this whole thing about Burrow and his number not being circulated.
As always, their takes are what they are, but these are some guys I tune into when I can. I think they're pretty reasonable people and IMO, what they say holds merit. I just wanted to put it out there:

Colin Cowherd: FWIW, usually very pro player and my guess would've been he supported JD, but his take was

It's "weird" of JD to care about this.
"You're worried about your college number, who cares".
College is over, time to move on.
Someone in his circle needs to step in and end this.
A lot of young QBs surround themselves with the wrong people.
Bad look for JD when he needs to get it right in year 3.

Nick Wright: well spoken guy for the most part, not a bad show, can't stand his LeBron v. MJ takes

Thinks it's fine if Burrow's number is off limits and JD's isn't... Burrow reached a higher threshold (I've really been looking for someone to acknowledge that).
Doesn't think this distracts JD.
Questioned financial implications of letting #5 go somewhere else.
Said his college career isn't something "he owns" and LSU can use his NIL for promoting.
A lot of guys on CFB teams and only so many numbers

Eric Mangini: Team guy, former NFL HC, no BS kind of guy - pretty expected take

"So disappointed. If this is what you're thinking about, it's a problem".
Haven't retired any recent numbers.
Have a process on how they do it, he's not even eligible.
Why do you care?
0 relevance

Chris Broussard: NBA guy, I usually like the guy's takes and his presence on the show. He seems like a realist

Disappointed but likes JD a lot.
He shouldn't be paying attention to this.
If LSU denied a player #9, then why are they allowing players to have #5?
Expects JDs # to be retired.
Said a few things about LSU's process that I didn't know (you have to wait 5 years AND all numbers retired after 2007 are recirculated).

RGIII: don't know much about his ideology, but happened across his take, which I think holds weight being a former Heisman winning QB.

It's a "colossal mistake" for 3 reasons:
1). Jersey retirements are an honor- not to be demanded or involve strong arming
2). Puts him in direct odds with LSU fan base
3). He and his current team are going into a critical year and his head is in the wrong place.

Hmmm.... can you explain to me the origins of "Ole Miss" and how the phrase was used in the 1800s?

I guess Malik Nabors, Brian Thomas, Will Campbell, Emery Jones, Mason Taylor, and several other NFL draft selections were just chopped liver.

I though an Ole Miss fan would at least respect Aaron Anderson.
He'll destroy a great legacy here in a day and literally have nothing to show for it.

This makes no sense for Jayden

1). He's not going to get a court order telling LSU to retire #5. There's no precedent for it and it's not common practice for schools to retire numbers just because the player won a Heisman. It's the university's sole discretion.

2). No promise was ever made to him. Kelly did not promise to retire his jersey and even if he did, he doesn't have the authority.

3). Even if he would somehow win and get an order for LSU to retire #5, what good would it do to have it done this way? Retiring numbers is a way of ingratiating yourself with the program and fan base. This is certainly not going to do that, and LSU would largely treat him like he was never here.

4). This will damage his image in the NFL. The NFL is the shield. It's not the NBA. It's about more than the player. Divas always get scrutinized and pushed to the side, especially when they start to decline. This won't sit well with the sport in general. He'll still get his contract and $ because he's a great player, but he won't be getting any favors for this and will have a poor reputation in the football world.

I'm sure he'll make this about Burrow and #9 not being worn, but it's also not officially been retired. Burrow led LSU to a NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP, an undefeated season, and probably the greatest CFB season of all time.

Jayden led LSU to... a Cheez-it and Poptart bowl. He never appeared in the playoff or won an SEC title. The defense in 2023 was bad but, sometimes it takes the perfect storm to cement a legacy deserving a retired number.
I was just thinking that... it'll probably be his HS team.

It'll just be more pettiness and 12 y/o behavior. Unless he retracts this quickly, he'll damage his reputation here irreversibly.
Probably Jayden Daniels.

If it's a nontransfer, Leonard Fournette.

My son is on a 7th grade rec team since his middle school only allows 8th graders to play. Between registration, equipment rental, jersey cost, and other fees, the total would be hovering somewhere around $500. Pretty big number for anyone pinching pennies. That seems to be the biggest issue i see around here. Parents don't want to have to pay that so they don't let the kids play until 8th grade ball ( when the school picks up the tab ) and then of course its their first year playing so they usually are not very good and they get discouraged and stop playing after 1 year.

In WV where I live, little league (full contact) starts for 9 year olds. When I was 7, my dad started a flag football league for that age group to get kids introduced w/o all the physicality. It's still good for younger kids today.

All aspects of football from age 7-18 has always been free where I'm from. I can't imagine having to pay anything for it like in baseball

Sage Ryan
I think the pace will change a ton. We were terrible at getting plays in last season and one of the slowest teams in the nation in pace.

Lane likes mobile QBs in his offense, so I'd expect to see a much different QB style of play compared to what we saw with Nuss.

I expect route trees designed to open up a primary receiver... in other words, there will be a purpose in the routes and progressions.

Lane is notorious for successful running games, so just seeing him get a running game going will be a big change.
