re: Alabama football is imploding and I'm enjoying every minute of it. Saban *was* the brand.

Saban could GAF less about exit strategy or having a smooth transition. Saban is a very proud person and would love nothing better than the next coach to fail so he can gloat. The guy recommended Houston Nutt when he left LSU. Houston fricking Nutt.

Bama football won't implode. The SEC and ESPN will see to that.

The SEC only needs 1 power. Pivot to UGA

Just look at Georgia. They're at the top of the mountain in terms of program (culture, winning, recruiting) and that is solely because of Kirby.
Naw, Georgia has always had a significant program, and Mark Richt was a consistent 10 wins a season coach. Lot of standards were set before Kirby got there.

Alabama fans: PLAYERS COME HERE BECAUSE WE ARE ALABAMA.
if any Bama fan thought that. wow!

Players go to coaches who can get them to the NFL and its $500,000 minimum wage, which you need when you have a single mom, three uncles, five friends, and one preacher who are all counting on you to give them money.

Alabama Football was the winningest in the SEC...

before Bear Bryant came to bama in the 1950s...

before Nick Saban came to Bama in 2007.

They are gonna fall back now but won't stay back for long. Much depends on how DeBoer does in 2024-25-26.

That is what happens when the pitch is come play for the GOAT and then he leaves. It shows that those players were there for Saban rather than for the Bama brand. Every program has their homers who would go there regardless. I am surprised there are that many non-homers.

Everything disagreeable about CFB will only get worse. No way to put the genie back in the lamp.

If you offered that comparison up to Will… it’d be a damn strong offer(ing).

I’m sorry.

I'm kinda with you. Love that this is happening to Bama, but the system itself seems kinda messed up. I'm all for players getting the opportunity to transfer if their coach leaves, but maybe a month is too long of a window since there is the spring portal window already in place as well.

I agree with you, but maybe make it a two way street. Don’t get me wrong, I’m happy to see Bama get fricked, but if players can transfer from the school with a coaching change, then players should be able to transfer to the school as well during the window.

I don’t get the wisdom of only making it a one way street.

Richt was a great coach and brought a winning culture but he absolutely did not take it to the level Kirby has.

Just for example, recruiting. Richt had 2 top 5 recruiting classes over 15 years.

Kirby has a machine down there now. They haven't been out of the top 3 since 2016 (per On3).

And if Kirby left tomorrow, that would change within a years time.

Lol at the thread titled “we will be a fascinating case study”

No, you won’t. The reality of the situation is that an average SEC program resource-wise was lucky enough to have the 2 greatest coaches of all time for very long tenures. Saban and Bryant were everything that Bama was. Their fans aren’t smart enough to figure that out but they probably won’t get a third Bryant or Saban, just an insanely lucky hand they were dealt.

I wonder how long it will take for the BAMA fans to start jumping on Saban for “ leaving us high and dry and not planning for a stable transition ?”
