re: Alabama football is imploding and I'm enjoying every minute of it. Saban *was* the brand.

Alabama is perfectly capable of sucking just like everybody else. They’re not automatically a championship program.

I'm playing my tiny violin for Bama fans for watching their dynasty get demolished with a wrecking ball in front of their eyes but as a fan of the sport of CFB I can't say I'm a fan of this. I wonder how much longer they continue on with this structure. There has to be some reform and soon.

100%. I'm only enjoying this because the Cult of the Crimson Tide is unraveling like a cheap stocking. However, this is coming (sooner-or-later) to every college football program in the country. It's not if, but when.

These lyrics fit well this current CFB situation:

quote:

Don't laugh 'cause it ain't funny.
Look how it happened to me.
It could happen to you, you could be a fool too
And it'd leave you in misery.

Once they field the worst defense ever I will laugh at them.

Until then, we aren’t better than them.

It's only funny because it's Bama. This could happen to any school, in fact it's happening to Washington right now too. It's absolutely crazy that if a coach leaves then the rest of the league gets a special month-long window to have a free for all on that team's roster.

This. If their fans hadn’t been so insufferable over the last 17 years, then maybe everyone wouldn’t be taking joy in watching their program being brought around the back of the shed and given the Old Yeller treatment.

I'd give anything for an extended DuBose/Franchione/Price era renaissance...

They may not even field a team next year the way it's trending.

Would a similar thing be happening at Michigan if Harbaugh left?

Also, is this the kind of thing that will happen frequently when a head coach who has been there for some time departs, especially since the transfer portal is here now?

Ironically, as much as I’ve enjoyed the Bama melt, what’s happening to the Tide and Washington as well may be the catalyst for a re-working of the system. It’s a huge story and the unintended consequences are immense to not only the impacted programs but potentially the value of the tv deals.

We had no choice but to completely gut the roster because we didn’t know who Wade paid.

They’re experiencing what we did when Wade was let go, except this is much worse because it’s football. Watching your program get dismantled one by one

I agree with the more level headed posters here, in that while it's nice to see Bama come crashing back to earth, this situation is terrible for the sport, and needs to be addressed promptly. Seems many of us forget that Kelly went with Saban to Washington to speak to congress about the need for some type of intervention into the transfer portal, specifically. It's funny when it's Bama, but after Kelly goes on his run, it will suck to be in their position 7 years from now. There needs to be some common sense changes made to the portal

I agree 100% but I really don’t this the ncaa or congress will do shite.

Until the pockets of these conference commissioners and networks executives are hit, nothing will change.
