fine, but Louisville is still fricking laughable.

Agreed. They’ve missed the tourney the last 2 years I think. Yep sounds like a program in GREAT shape with a super bright future.

Mississippi State is another program clearly trending up lol

It’s clearly just a half assed attempt to generate a ranking with the sole intent of getting clicks and I’d imagine it worked as it’s almost too ridiculous not to catch your attention

For that, I say good job AA-Ron

The idea that LSUs success in the 90s has no impact on the program today is crazy.

An article said they released these rankings in 17, 19 and 23. Jay will have #8 before they update it again.

Lol exactly

I know the 90s was a long time ago but man if you think it’s meaningless in terms of LSU being the baseball brand that it is TODAY then I don’t know what to tell you Mr. D1 writer who covers this shite for a living.

Again, just an absolutely idiotic perspective from which to compile a ranking list

I pay zero attention to these kinds of lists. What does it matter what some schlub thinks?

None of it matters - ignore it. And don't click on their links - that gives them money.

Only us and Texas but we’re the only school to have 3 or more different coaches win championships in baseball and football

Even if you forget about the 90's and just judge LSU over the last 10-15 years, how do you put teams like Arkansas, Louisville and especially MSU ahead of us?

I do find it interesting that so many people take offense to a ranking that represents the end of the Manieri era when the consensus was that the program was in decline and he needed to retire. It says a lot about our expectations for this program that #7 wasn’t good enough.

As to your arguments, they specifically laid out that they were giving the most weight to the last 5 years in their rankings, not 10-15 years. The rankings were before the season started, so they don’t include the title just won. LSU had a 4 year CWS drought and only made the Supers twice in that span. I’m not sure why it’s difficult to see how Miss St with an NC, 3 straight CWS and 5 straight Supers before last year was higher. As I mentioned elsewhere, Louisville had 4 CWS appearances and 7 Supers in the last 9 to 3 and 6 for LSU. Arkansas had made 3 of 4 CWS (and 5 of 10) and 4 straight Supers.

Why base it on 5 years? What kind of sample size is that? State is always either in the tournament, or they are absolutely awful. There is no in between with them. A top 5 program does not follow up with a losing record the year after winning it all. Let alone two in a row now. They are rarely a threat to win a national title. Some of those years where they made the CWS, they were no more a threat to make noise than Oral Roberts was. Sometimes you get hot for a little bit and make it there.

Also, OP said nothing about 5 years, and I'm not about to read anything on that site. What the crap has Louisville done in the last 5 years? They don't even play anyone, and yet they seem like a middling team that gets overrated in the regular season, only to flop when it matters.

Well obviously there are players around the country who are playing for other teams who haven’t forgotten LSU baseball from the 90’s and 2000’s. He’s a damn fool if he thinks LSU baseball isn’t number 1 or at least top 2. We just saw the impact of LSU baseball in Omaha. It doesn’t get any better than that.

Got a link? No clue when this was or what it refers to. You simply saying it was blah blah blah is meaningless.

At some point you have to conclude that success far enough in the past has no relevance to current and future program strength. Is South Carolina a top 3 program for having 2 NCs since 2010? Is UCLA’s 2013 NC reflective of their current program strength? No hard and fast cutoff is going to universally capture the current strength and trajectory of a program, but 5 years is going to be closer than 10-15.

The list was made before this season. With two poor seasons in a row, that certainly changes the trajectory of the program and they would fall with a new evaluation, but prior to that they were the most consistent program in the country from 2016-2021. No other program made Supers all 5 years and their 3 CWS and 1 NC in that span were as good as anyone. It was not unreasonable to think they had turned a corner with their resources and fan base.

What the crap has Louisville done in the last 5 years?

In the 5 seasons before this year, they had one more CWS appearance and the same number of Supers as LSU. Both teams being ranked as high as they are shows they were sticking strictly to the last 5 years. Both were strong in the last 5 but stronger over a more extended time frame. As I noted, Louisville had one more CWS and Super than LSU over the last 9 seasons before this year.

I’m prejudiced, but I don’t believe LSU has ever dropped below a Top 5 program in the last 30 years.

A lot of y’all are confusing “top program” with “top team.” A run of several winning years in a row is only a small factor when judging a “program.”
