USC and their 12 titles don’t even crack the top 100?

That was the first thing I noticed and concluded that this whole list is full of shite and not worth any more of my time.

It’s not a historical ranking. It’s an assessment of current program strength (before this season). USC hasn’t even made the NCAA tournament since 2015 and only once since 2005.

They sell subscriptions. I’m sure they care a little about their perceived credibility.

Read what the list is.

quote:

We have counted down the top 100 programs in college baseball, as they stand in 2022. For the purpose of this exercise, we don’t care what happened in the 1970s or 80s, or even the 90s — that’s ancient history to a potential recruit in 2022. Tradition is nice, but it’s more important to establish a tradition of consistent winning in the last decade, and especially in the last five years. Our ultimate goal here is to identify the programs in the best shape right now, with an eye toward the next five to 10 years.

Given that, I would say I disagree with some of the rankings but none of them is that far off before this season started. Some don't look so good in hindsight now, for sure.

Was this prior to the '23 season or the '22 season? If '22, I would agree with it. New coach, hadn't been to Omaha in 5 years. If that were re-done as of today, we'd obviously be #1, and there'd be a wide gap after the first 12 or so programs.

How tf can Louisville be ahead of LSU W/O 1 natty. Also, Lsu has the same # of natty as all of the top 6 on this horrible list combined. Gtfo here!!!

You mean the school with only one NCAA tournament appearance since 2005 and none since 2015? You think they are one of the top CURRENT programs (which these rankings are)?

At the time the list was made, LSU had a 13-year NC drought and a 4-year CWS drought. It’s not an all-time list, it was the best current programs as of 2022.

I understand the ranking. I doesn't think it is a great sample size but I understand it.

This would be like ranking the top football programs and putting Alabama 5th because of their last three years. .

m prejudiced, but I don’t believe LSU has ever dropped below a Top 5 program in the last 30 years.

Think we did when Smoke got fired

And when we gently pushed out Mainieri
