Will give more guys an extra year of leverage to use.
Will also give those program guys 1 more year.
We’ve have a lot of those guys that would have been nice to get the extra year.

Especially if you can only transfer once.

Think of guys like Dugas, Jones, Braswell, Pearson, etc… getting that extra year to play

I agree. Especially with another year of leverage and development. Some jump to draft because of leverage when they are solid players but then drown in the minors. Who knows how many may have made it all the way with an extra year of development

Not sure what to make of it. Obviously, we want some of our players to stay for another season, but won't it just raise the sea level for all teams?

5 for 5 doesn’t help you get younger. Reality still when you are in an organization you are young at 22 and old at 23

The NCAA has made it so difficult for freshmen to compete with all their shite the last several years

Yep. The smart move has been for high schoolers to sign at a smaller school where they will be a day 1 starter. Then transfer to a better program . And then do it again and again.
It’s a terrible system that isn’t good for anyone except players and agents to get a quick cash grab.

This isn’t true as much today. The MLB shortened draft was a direct result of raising the average age. It takes less time to get to the show for players that are developed at the college level in conferences like the SEC. It is better than minor league baseball developing them and culling out those that probably would not have made it otherwise. The Austin Nolan story is rare.
People just seem to think every player can be a major leaguer when the reality is it is fractions of a percent that have that talent.
Better to stay longer in college and get an education than go to the MLB. Same for football players

Yep. And the people screaming about leverage don't consider that guys that will be looking to stay an extra year in college don't have any leverage regardless because they're infinitely replaceable.
I do think 5 for 5 is going to really beef up JUCO baseball though.

College baseball is not better at development.
It can help with washout.

Do they ‘grandfather’ in the kids who have been sent to JC to develop/get older under the pretense that they sit in JC for 2 years and then come back to SEC with 4 yrs of eligibility?
Aggies use Blinn as their feeder. Other Texas schools have developed relationships with JC.

The people that this effects the most are "great college players who aren't so great pro prospects" and this just isn't a whole lot of guys. This will get them another year of NIL and still get a decent draft payday. Jared Jones would probably be the best recent example, but in any typical year, LSU will have MAYBE one of those guys, possibly none.

No. JUCO years will count against the 5 years.
But unless you can absolutely get on the field as a freshman, there won't be a point for a lot of these guys to go to 4 year schools. Anyone that isn't an instant contributor would be better off going to JUCO and keeping their options open.

It could help with late bloomer pitchers too, since age is less of an issue for teams drafting pitchers because they already know most are going to blow out or become relievers or both.

yea, but feels like those guys all have 5 years now because they get injured at some point.

Staying in college until you’re 22 doesn’t help tweeners make it to the majors, if that’s their goal.
Elite guys like Kade, Eyanson, Skenes benefit more from going to the minors and getting MLB coaching in Double A then Triple A for a year or two, seeing more professional hitters.
Tweeners, mostly get sent to High A or Single A, which is more of the same coaching, development, and competition as college.
Elites will still leave early to better prep for the majors and the tweeners may stay an extra year in college (for NIL) but it’s to their detriment professionally if college development is similar to Single A. They’re not getting any younger.

I think you’re asking how knows how many players would have made it all the way to the majors with an extra year of development in college, no? I would say not that many more—probably even less than already do—because a year of development in the minors >>> extra year in college. And age matters. They are likely to be given up on the older they are.
There are other factors like luck—injury luck, luck on which organization drafts you and their current situations, etc…If they pass the 5 for 5, though, make no mistake, if guys like Milam
come back for that 4th year, it’s gonna be for the NIL $, not because it will help prepare them to get to the bigs more than starting their pro careers.

There is better development in the minors
