I was thinking about this the other day. Did they already approve the 5 4 5?
If so, I wish they'd grandfather in this years players. Would love to have Cowan and a healthy Stanny back for the run to title #9 next year.

It hasn't passed yet. And they don't intend to grandfather players.
ETA: They've delayed the vote in what seems like a play to make everyone fill up their rosters to reduce the possibility of lawsuits from the guys not being grandfathered.

College baseball is not better at development. It can help with washout.
The meals and training is better. The ONLY difference is school versus practicing a bunch more. That gap has significantly closed.
Pitchers today are working on multiple secondary pitches at a time.

It’s a terrible system that isn’t good for anyone except players and agents to get a quick cash grab.
The way you phrased it makes it sound like the system being good for the players is bad. You’re saying it’s only good for a cash grab, not that it’s good for the players.

And none of this negates anything I said.

But unless you can absolutely get on the field as a freshman, there won't be a point for a lot of these guys to go to 4 year schools. Anyone that isn't an instant contributor would be better off going to JUCO and keeping their options open.
JUCO is gonna be the smart move for alot of athletes in different sports. If they play their cards right, they will be better off in the long run than jumping right into the meat grinder considering you get 1 transfer after that.

This is what people fail to understand…A cash grab isn’t always good for players. They’re usually making short sighted decisions based on NIL instead of what’s best for long term . Similar to the Fernando Tatis jr fiasco.

It doesn’t change anything other than it’s likely to mean more incoming freshman stay in the draft.
If you have a choice to start a MLB career, or be stuck on the bench behind 22/23 year olds who won’t play in the pros but are good enough for college, you’re going to be far more likely to sign with a MLB team.

No great player has stayed in college five years in a long time.

Matt Carpenter was a multi time all star and a 5 year guy at TCU

Ok, there’s one. You got me. My general comment stands.

Absolutely.
It’s unique enough that I just feel like the one guy should get a shout out.

Don’t need the entire roster to be made of mlb guys. It helps. But most of the time you need good program guys. Good college players.

Baseball is uniquely different in that the younger the major leagues can get a player the better...so if you goal is to get to the majors it is not a added benefit. However, if you want to stretch out your collegiate career because this is likely the end of the road then YES it is added benefit for you and adds experience and maturity to college lineups.
No draft eligible junior who is 21-22 is looking forward to sticking around until 23-24 y/o because that is not the model for most major league clubs...maybe for a pitcher that's about it.

5 for 5 doesn’t help you get younger. Reality still when you are in an organization you are young at 22 and old at 23
It’s true, but at least you give players more options. For example, it probably won’t make that much difference if Milam comes out this year or next year if he has the option to play 2 more years. In general I agree with you.

I like the idea of giving the players more options. For players that likely won’t be MLB players it’s good for them to have an extra year of college. It’s helps the players in the long run with their lives after baseball.

yeah there are a lot of guy who would have played a 4th year if they had leverage in the draft.
Danny Dickinson signed for 325k No way he doesn’t come back if he had a leverage
