Very cool pictures. I have tickets from that game autographed by Casanova, Bert Jones, and Theismann.

I’ve heard about medical exchange, but what was the process? Was there a bank of phones inside the stadium?

I was a student at LSU in 1970. I watched the game at the old gym armory. They set up a big screen and folding chairs. The crowd acted like the refs could hear us booing the VERY questionable pass interference call that set up their fg.

Our defense was awesome, led by Ronnie Estay DT.

We smashed them in BR, behind Bert Jones and Andy Hamilton, in the “ payback game”.

My parents got engaged at the 1971 matchup in TS. I always thought that was so cool.

I think you may have been up there for the 1985 game which LSU won. There was little enthusiasm for Notre Dame football that year, which became the last one for coach Gerry Faust-- a chronic underachieving coach.

Daily trivia: there was another notable "Gerry" in the picture: former Ticer coach and temporal hero Gerry Dinardo was OL on their 1970 team.

Thanks for sharing......I was selling programs at Tiger stadium in the 60s/70s...it was an awesome time for LSU football.....

But we could NOT beat BAMA! That was not awesome!

I am a bit jealous. Though I despise Notre Dame, seeing a game at Notre Dame stadium is on the bucket list.

Didn’t Oklahoma have a home and home with ND in like 2012?

On YouTube you can hear the radio broadcast of this game by both the lsu and Notre dame networks. Also the play by play footage from Notre Dame .

Listened to this game on radio. Back then you had couple of local TV stations with three major networks and basically one national game aired in Saturdays. You just didn’t see LSU, or any team, on TV unless it was a major national game. Games like Ohio State-Michigan, Notre Dame-USC, Texas-Arkansas, Florida-Georgia, Alabama-Tennessee were the type of games usually televised.

Listened to this game on the radio , then watched the hour long Notre Dame playback on Baton Rouge television the next morning .with Lindsey Nelson doing the play by play . Notre Dame playbacks were on every week in Baton Rouge for some reason , maybe because of the national reach of Notre Dame Then the Charlie Mac show later .

Yes we did classmate. Everything was great except the final score. Good post, you are right on.

Back then, TV coverage was arranged well in advance, and there were NCAA rules as to which games could be televised.

It was also well before NBC became the Notre Dame Broadcasting Corporation.

I answered, "Well, we got a defensive back named Casanova, and Gatewood has never seen anything like him."

I think Gatewood was held to only about 8 yards for the entire game.
