I think the plan for Braun next year comes down to who ends up in the portal. If we see 2-3 high level OF, we could leave him on 1B. If we see a 1B we want, it's great that he can slide back to the OF and still provide a bat we need in the lineup.

It's smart to use Braun strategically and place him where he's needed most in the lineup, whether it's 1B or corner OF. I'd view it as a Trey Morgan situation, who was insane at 1B but played some OF to let guys like Beloso and Bear in the lineup.

Besides the injury situation, Morgan was a phenomenal athlete that physically profiled for the OF. Braun does not. The fact that he looked better at 1B than OF, the position he played his whole life, tells you what you need to do next.

Hawsey is close to and former high school teammate with Frederico who signed and plays for Ole Miss. But he’s probably buds with our Pearson.

Any word on Hawsey’s intentions?

What? Braun wasn't terrible in the OF.

Before you start offering any of thses guys, make sure you have the appropriate and overly cautious amount of money set aside for pitchers

I don't think he is a good fit for LSU. LSU does not need a first baseman / DH, especially of this caliber. The four returning starters are all first baseman / DH types (Braun, Pearson, plus Serna and Arrambide when not catching). Also, his stat line is unimpressive. Recall that Yorke went from .339/13 HR/46 RBI at Grand Canyon to .226/6 HR/19 RBI at LSU and that Bryce Calloway went from .390/18 HR/63 RBI at UNO to .263/3 HR/11 RBI at UGA. I suspect that Hawsey's stat line at LSU would be pretty similar to that of Zach Yorke.

So every 1B that comes from a smaller school now is Yorke? Ridiculous.

if he shows he can hit sec pitching then you shuffle guys around to get him in the lineup as m uch as possible obviously. the offense first strategy has worked for us even if it didnt this season

No I’m not sure at all. Was damn sure two weeks ago, but now not so much. I do know LSU kicked the tires on him and there was money discussed, maybe from his camp and not LSU. I just hope he doesn’t go to Old Mrs and makes us regret.
