I think he has the Danny Dickinson toughness/mindset that Jay likes.
If you go by Florida's website he played most of his sophomore season with a hand injury.

I don’t think he is a couple hundred grand guy

Kurland is a 3+ year SEC starter at a position of need for us that had a sophomore slump and dealt with injury.
Led off in the CWS Finals against LSU in all 3 games and went 5-11. Jay mentioned he took Stanfield because of what stuck out in his ABs vs Skenes, look at how that took out. This is a really great nab.

The problem will be if Ruckert winds up entering the portal because of Kurland.

That was more top end, prob more 80-150k. That those bottom of draft guys can get

Pineda from Baylor
This was my initial thought on this. Definitely gives me Jack Pineda vibes. More of a leverage commit than anything. If he ends up at LSU so much the better but not expecting it.

It's a risk/reward type of deal. It seems Kurland has had injuries but played through some as well. The guy has a really good glove with some pop in the bat (close to 1,000 ABs thus far) with SEC experience. With the draft who really knows, but hearing likely day 2 or possibly 3.
We only won 9 SEC games last year. Yep, I'd take some of that risk.

I wanna be excited about this but the draft risk sucks and like project mentioned, this could push someone out like Pearson or Ruckert.
Let’s say Kurland makes it to campus and Ruckert and Pearson stay. Do we see Ruckert and Pearson platoon at 3rd? Or do they try to play kurland there? He’s never played anything other than 2nd in 4 years of college

Does anyone know if there has been any consideration to adjusting the calendar? I think most coaches would like the draft to happen before the portal. Years ago, the draft would fall during the regionals and even the CWS if you go back to the 90's. That was not ideal. They moved the draft to July which seemed perfect. Then the portal was invented. Since the draft deadline to sign is late July, they obviously can't open the portal in August. It just seems like there is no great option. Any thoughts?

this will sound harsh, but who cares

Not saying you’re wrong but let’s not oversimplify these decisions. In addition to the raw numbers, intangibles and potential cloud things.

The obvious downside would be they both hit the portal and then Kurland gets drafted and signs, but you have to trust that Jay has had these conversations with all three players.

I asked Jay if they will ever move portal season to after the draft. Jay told me that it is an advantage at LSU because his staff is more prepared than other sfaffs.

I think Kurland can be related to Miliam. If Milam returns, than Kurland goes. Milam goes and maybe Kurland goes to LSU.
I will say, I think Jay is going to put MIlam the top priority this off-season. There will be a big NIL for Milam. 5 for 5 might help him a decent signing bonus in 2028.

There's no reason to coddle Pearson. Ruckert has some upside that you'd like to retain and tap into but there's room for him and Kurland on the IF so I don't think he would leave. Even if Milam came back Ruckert will still get tons of opportunity as a lefty bat
