A few people on this board have learned some consistent trends with some of our coaches and kids they follow on certain social media pages to determine if a coach from LSU has likely made contact with the recruits.

I don't think it is likely he gets that 5 mil. Question is what happens when 3-3.5 is thrown in your face. He is the 8th LHP when you look at MLB.com prospect rankings. Only 3 of those are college guys and the other 4 in front of him in rankings are HS. The other HS LHP are ranked 24 or above and Schmidt is ranked 45.
I know all it takes is one team to like him more than others but also have to consider other team needs may not be LHP plus they may go with college or another HS arm. I just don't see how he gets 5mil.
More likely to have a scenario like Briggs McKenzie where he may end up falling a little then a team has savings figured out and throws him 3 mil in the 4th round.

The problem has been the in state talent in the last few years. At LSU you don't take in state kids just to say you have in state kids out of high school. They have to be good enough to come to LSU in the first place. However, the next few years after this recruiting class should have more in state talent.

No. Only 2 recruits are DES. Anthony Murphy and CJ Weinstein as far as I know.
Which also goes into the conversation from earlier with Armstrong eluding to a HS recruit who is 50/50 type to make it to campus possibly decommitting. He didn't mention name of who it was but talked about last minute returners at same position and also if the guy would be a DES then he may look to decommit and look somewhere else. CJ Weinstein fits both of those.

I recall Paz having multiple midweek starts where he would come out in the 1st inning and look like a Freshman All American with a 1,2,3 inning. Come out for the 2nd inning and look like he was completely lost. It was very strange to me. I recall at least 3 games this happened and it was mostly earlier in the year.

Agreed. The last thing to come back after TJ is command of pitches. Especially secondary pitches.
I don't think Paz leaving is a huge deal for the future of LSU, but I absolutely would love for him to be with LSU the next 2 years than him go somewhere else. Obviously caught Jay off guard since Jay has specifically mentioned him in multiple interviews about someone who will be a future starter. Bet he was meaning that as a future starter for another team.

Jay was saying he expects only 6-8 to sign I thought that seemed quite optimistic
The more I think about it and the more I look at the list of recruits the more I feel like it ends up being 9-10 guys get drafted and sign. 6 seems extremely optimistic and if 8 happens I think that is still a big win.

MLB prospect rankings and the way teams draft still factor in projectability. Just can't teach mid 90s from the left side. A lot of teams will think they have the right guys in the minors to fix his issues.

Just an FYI, the MLB Combine started today. Saw some clips of Nawrocki hitting and he is listed most places as a LHP but the ball coming off his bat is really impressive.

His comparison to Dardar wasn’t with play style or stats, it was strictly just saying that he can’t stay healthy and always has some type of nagging injury that keeps him from his full potential.

With Kurland it is all about keeping him healthy. His only year healthy was his freshman year. I think every year after that he has had some type of injury he either played through or the one year he only played in 14 games.
Armstrong brought it up but it's similar to Dardar in the sense of it seems he is someone who just always has some kind of nagging injury to keep him from reaching his potential consistently.

Both catchers improved by a pretty wide margin from start to end of this season. I understand it is frustrating but both guys are young and it is really hard to come from high school where the pitching isn't nearly as hard to catch as in college. Also, some of the pitchers didn't have a clue where the ball was going when it left their hand. That doesn't help out catcher. Hopefully pitcher development and a better pitching staff who can attack the strike zone will help the catchers do their job even better next season.

I'm sure if Jay would have his way he would want 1 guy to seize each position. That means everyone is playing to a high level. Platooning is more when you don't have that but its obvious Jay isn't scared to have to do that either.
It is too early to tell with any of that though. Still have the draft, fall, and spring ball to go through to narrow it down. Jay is building this roster with a lot of players being very versatile. Fall will have plenty players getting time at multiple positions.

I don't think anyone knows the true answer or close guess to any of this because we don't have the info that Jay does as far as how many are considered DSA guys.
Last season I think they started with 39-40 and the spring roster ended up with 38. Hard for me to believe they will want to go more than the 38 when the goal is to be at 34 in the next year or 2.

I'm still not 100% familiar with all the rules with that. To me if you had the opportunity to be assigned with a DSA then why not do it.
For Jay to say the roster will be 40-41 they have to have quite a few DSA guys on the roster. I was trying to figure out who would be that but its confusing to try to lock down.

The greatest part about having Park locked in coming here and playing at 3rd is, god forbid Milam get hurt, you still have an easy fix to that problem.

They both have a solid build already. Hoping they can just find barrels a little better and get the balls in to the gaps. It will come. Also a wood bat league. Takes some adjustments there.

Ruckert has a .500 OBP in the summer league him and Patrick are playing in right now. Both hitting over .300 in over 30 PA so far. I would like to see a little more pop from both of them. Only 1 XBH each so far in 24-26 ABs for each of them.

Yes, it was 53 before adding Valasquez.
Jay said about 17 so I wouldn't really take that as a hard number. In one of the list in this thread had Aase being someone who wasn't on the roster but I think he will stay on the roster being a LHP. Could be something there coming off TJ and could be someone who can give you some good situational spot innings out the pen. I guess another thought process could be to see if he would agree to go JUCO for a year or 2 and get innings after the rehabbing but not sure he would agree to that. If that was the case he would likely have hit the portal.

Agree.
Thompson actually was having some success in scrimmages 2024 fall and 2025 spring too. Just threw 86-88 so I guess they didn't give him as much of a shot as some other guys.

Patrick and Ruckert are both playing on the same team in the Pacific Empire League for summer ball. So far through 7 games:
Patrick - 8/21 with 4K/6BB
Ruckert - 8/22 with 2K/8BB
Patrick - 8/21 with 4K/6BB
Ruckert - 8/22 with 2K/8BB
