For those that really know baseball, among those stats listed with each player, is there one number or ratio that you feel indicates replicable success in the SEC? What might can be improved upon and what is likely to get worse in our league? Thanks.

Everyone will have different opinions on this.

Mine is the K/BB ratio along with WHIP. That's usually what I will look at first for each.

For hitters, K to BB ratio first and foremost. Of the major historical metrics, OPS has been viewed as a gold standard, but it’s more beneficial from a professional baseball perspective when the competition is more evenly distributed. OPS is faulty at college level due to competitive imbalance between different leagues and even for power conf hitters that are boosted by OOC games.

For pitchers, K to BB ratio first and compared to IP. As with OPS for hitters, WHIP applies to pitchers, but still has its flaws at college level.

Just curious for someone who might know. How does 64 analytics come up with their portal rankings? They have Rizy higher than Landon Hood which is hard for me to believe.

I thought Ruckert showed a lot as a freshman. Kurland has declined his entire career. I'd rather 2-4 years of Ruckert versus 1 from Kurland.

I’d have fully agreed with you a few years ago. Having said that, Ruckert may turn out to be an elite player but in the portal era he may not be irreplaceable. I think Kurland is a worthwhile player to take a gamble on. Insane amount of SEC experience that will almost certainly translate IF he can stay healthy.

64 Analytics has some proprietary algorithm they use to compute player rankings in the portal. From what I understand, the younger the player (and perhaps even the less experience the player has), the calculation weighs previous metrics (high school or junior college) heavier. Whereas, upperclassmen with multiple years of college experience have little to no weight in their statistics from previous stops at lower levels, be it HS or JC. I believe they’ve tweaked the formula multiple times over the years and did so even this past offseason (or maybe year prior, can’t remember), so it’s far from being established.

They’re also putting a lot into their marketed advanced metrics and data profiles for sale to colleges around the country. Like what 643 Charts has carved out, with 643 seemingly leading the pack in this niche.

I typically lurk this thread b/c I love the info you guys share.

Take this for what it's worth. I have a friend who is pretty tied in with our NIL, so I get some nuggets of info from time to time. Milam's offer from Jay is at least a million. I don't know the exact number, and the way it was worded didn't make me think it was much more than that. They think it's better than his expected slot and feel there is a very good chance he's back. It's actually a better offer than the one Jay put together after the draft for Frey. If anything, it helped Frey get more money on his contract (which is why he signed for above slot). I don't think Frey ever intended to come back, but Jay made a hard push for it.

ETA: well shite. did that actuall break while i was typing. I didn't think it would be known this soon.

Assuming Park was likely aware of this as a possibility and ok to play 3B... Kurland/Ruckert at 2B. Braun stays at 1B? We aren't pursing many if any 1B in the portal, mostly OF. Will be interesting to see if we add 1 more OF.
