Thinking that he is making these calls is naive. This kid either has a parent or a handler (Barbershop type) that is in the kid's ear and pushing him around.

This is entirely the problem with NIL. A guy like Heard wants to be a star in college and be paid for football. He then wants to become a high-paid NFL player. He is not focused on a real career, he is focused on being a football player.

I feel that the NIL money is detrimental to too many young men who start to chase NFL dreams and fail to prepare for life after football. They also bounce around chasing NIL money rather than learning to conform, prepare and then perform. One great season at LSU would lead to far more money.

Heard may choose to remain fat and undisciplined but I hope he figures it out soon. I'd be a big fan of his if he stays

I’d say the longer it drags out the more likely it is he come back , but Tennessee is the favorite right now

The way people on this board talk about these kids is absolutely mindboggling. "The way he's acted"?? There's not one of us on here--and certainly not you--that has any idea "how hes acted". You guys always wanna talk about trusting the staff... well you better believe that the staff wants lance heard on the roster entering 2024.

He told the staff he wanted to be starting LT and if not then he was taking his ball and going home. So he’s expecting them to move a 3 yr starter who is inarguably better than him to another position so he can have his spot.

So yeah that’s how he acted and no I don’t think BK did anything wrong by not giving into him.

You have inside info? Post your link? Are you regurgitating the “I know will and I’ll be the left tackle”?

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. This is nil driven and it’s the mother that’s running things. She, through a fired coach at Bastrop, shopped him around in high school. It’s how he landed at Neville. Mom got a house in Monroe. Sadly, she’s running things.

I’ve heard this, too.
Hope it’s not true.
Both will end up bitter and disappointed in the long run.

Did you not see his quotes about after signing with LSU out of HS? Apparently not. He talked about taking the LT position as a TR FR even though Will Campbell was proving himself.

You can't POSSIBLY be so smooth-brained as to read those quotes as malicious rather than confident and excited. He wasnt saying "frick will campbell and the current OL, they suck and don't deserve to start". He was saying "I don't care how good my position is, I'm gonna come in and compete and win the job".

First off, what the frick do you want the kid to say? Do you want him to say "I'm not gonna beat out the current starter so I guess I'll get comfortable riding the bench"? This board goes on endlessly about how they want kids who are willing to come in and compete for their job, and how we shouldn't be taking anyone who asks for a guaranteed starting spot--hell, people in *this thread* are lamenting that Heard isn't willing to compete--and yet you hold it against them when they sign their NLI with the mindset that they don't care who their competition is because they're gonna win the job anyway. You can't criticize guys when they go somewhere with less competition then ALSO criticize guys when they express that they're NOT scared of competition.

And second, not only did this board absolutely love it when Heard said that stuff, but the COACHING STAFF loved it when he said that stuff. They raved about that mindset and competitive spirit. And it's exactly the mindset every coach wants: I'm coming in and I'm gonna do everything in my power to make sure you can't justify keeping me on the sideline. In fact, if Heard still had that same mindset--the one you're criticizing--he wouldn't be in the portal in the first place.

I know absolutely nothing about Heard's mom or their situation generally, but it seems incredibly difficult for me to believe that there was someone willing to buy a house in order to add one player to a high school team.

If this is really the case then the market will adjust, and we'll see guys start forgoing NIL paydays. Or do you guys not believe in market economics?

Just to be clear: Everyone who says that we need to put restrictions on NIL "for the players' own good"--on the assumption that players are better off having regulators make these decisions for them than making these decisions themselves--is no different from Michael Bloomberg when he banned the sale of sodas bigger than 16oz in NYC. You don't think people should have the ability to make decisions for themselves.

What kind of person is so obsessed with winning high school football games that they would buy/rent a house for a family just so the kid could play football for a certain high school?

Y'all can point the finger at the mom and say she's the problem for "shopping" the kid, but it's insane to me that there are "buyers" out there for high school athletes.

There are obviously people willing to pay for the services of high school athletes, so why shouldn't a family consider improving their situation for a few years? I don't know the specifics of their situation, but I can't blame anyone for taking advantages of opportunities to better their families.

Looks like him landing in U of Tennessee . He was not one of the starting best 5 this year. With everyone but the center returning, odds were slim for him beating out anyone. Lots of talent, still needs work. Will he put in the work? We will see at a distance how this one plays out. I hope he gets it together, hate to see talent go to waste.

He jokingly said he would be the starting LT but idiots on here can’t comprehend that. He left because of money. The same reason we haven’t gotten any DTs or CBs. This is LA, the poorest state in the country

The coaches that see him everyday in practice obviously don't believe he deserves any extra NIL money. He hasn't done a damn thing in college. Brad Davis and Brian Kelly have an incredible track record developing OL so I'll trust their judgment here.
