I'll Admit it - I Have No Idea How Basketball Recruiting Works Anymore

I mean, all of the other sports seem relatively familiar - just able to pay players now, but basketball seems to be a completely different animal.

I'm not sure McMahon knew how it worked either

Sounds like you just go overseas and buy the best available players.
We tried something similar prior to the industrial revolution. It did not work out very well.

I know one thing - Will Wade is going to do whatever it takes to win games and not give a single F what anyone outside LSU thinks about it. When he's through putting together this squad it will be a lock to make the NCAA tournament.

Which is what the goal for all of us should be. Who gives a f$$&, where the kids come from let’s just put a component team in the floor

“I see you’re a top 20 recruit in the nation. Just know that you’ll probably be in an observer role on the bench for the first two years while our transfers from Southeast Missouri State get 32 minutes a game. By your junior year, you’ll be ready to play a few minutes for us. We usually don’t like to play high profile out of conference games. We give it our all during SEC play and sometimes even get to play in front of 3,000 of our fans at home games.
You have other official visits scheduled at Duke, Kansas and Florida? Well I’m sure they’ll make great cases for you too. Tell those coaches I say hi. Anyway how do you feel about redshirting?”

High major basketball as of now is recruiting euros under 30 not yet ready for the NBA and supplementing with old college players and first round talents.
Supposedly the thought is this is the last cycle of that being allowed with the new 5-year clock rules.

You know... I don't even care that they are Euro pros. I mean... we are paying all the players. They are all pros. European or not, it makes little difference.
I don't even care if they are older players, either.
The NCAA has made a mockery of this sport. We might as well stretch the limits of what's fair, tasteful, or possible to their greatest extremes, no matter how ridiculous it looks. If the NCAA doesn't care... why should we? Just put a winner on the court.

I'm with you.
I really don't understand how you split hairs on recruiting professionals from overseas vs NBA, G-League professionals.
I've always thought collegiate athletes should be allow to make money from autograph signings, jersey sales, personal appearances, etc. That is what NIL was intended to allow. The NCAA screwed the pooch by fighting it for years, including ridiculous rules about free meals, etc. Mark Emmert did a great job at LSU but he was a complete an utter failure as NCAA President.
Now the horse is of the barn. College sports, particularly college basketball, has become a more of collegiate club just paying hired guns overseas to play for pay. I find it less appealing and less about the University and athletic traditions.
Don't get me wrong. I will still cheer on my Tigers and be excited for every victory, etc. It just won't seem the same.
