New push mower... Honda or not

Moved and installed zoysia last year. My property is not real hilly, but that grass along with it makes it very difficult without self propelled.
Thinking of buying a Honda push mower, but figured I would ask before dropping the cash on one.
1/2 acre emerald zoysia
Pretty steep on one side of yard
Need self propelled

I recently moved into a new house in a neighborhood and bought my first pushmower. I bought a Honda self propelled 200cc engine. Going to use it this afternoon for the first time, I will report back.

Nothing wrong with going Honda for a push mower. I got the most expensive one...make sure it is a Honda mower.

Are you talking about a walk-behind self propelled or a stand-on type? 1/2 acre is big enough I could see you meaning a stand-on version.

Whatever you do, get a rear wheel drive
My front wheel drive doesn't have much power and is a bitch in certain spots

Can't recommend the Honda engine enough.
I bought a Troy Bilt with a Honda mower 3 years ago and has not failed to start on the first pull yet.
Mine is a regular push and I've moved to a bigger house/land and am looking at self-propelled Honda engine mowers only.

I love my Honda mower.

Can't go wrong with a Honda.
I will say I have a Troy-Bilt w/ a Briggs & Stratton that's 8 years only and is running just fine.

I have a honda self propelled that is 9 years old. It has never failed to start on the first pull in 9 years. I'm very pleased with it.

In all honesty, I think Zoysia is best cut with a reel mower, but you probably don’t want one of those. Do keep your blades sharp and it will make the mower cut much easier.
I dislike self propelled - heavier, harder to maneuver, and the performance declines over time. At least that is my experience. However, Zoysia is harder to get through than St Augustine and self propelled might help.

Yeah I would be fine if it wasn't for the damn hill. I struggle mightily pushing upwards. Unfortunately you shouldn't mow in the same direction over and over. So I need to be able to go uphill.
I thought about getting a chain driven reel, but figured I would need to the rotary mower either way. As the reel ones are not forgiving if you don't mow very frequently.
Might get both

My Honda is on its 8th season. Starts on the first pull pretty much every time! I have one of the lower end models and I cannot recommend it enough.

Let me know, looking at the new one. HRX without the electric start

I have been extremely happy with my Honda and has lasted longer than the two previous Toro and Snapper's I have owned. The main issue with the Toro and Snapper were the drivetrain failures.

I picked up one of the mid to upper range Husqvarna models about two years ago, and in hindsight, it may be pound for pound the best performing thing I own, including my penis. This thing is frickig legit. Works great up and down hills and cuts the same whether the grass is 4 inches or 10 inches. Which is crisp and smooth.

I have a Toro that is going on it's 11th year.
Runs great..starts on the first pull.
I have had to replace the gas tank..found out that it is common. Was not happy.
Replaced the pull cord..Caught on a branch and swung under and got chopped up.

Definitely. As long as you burn the gas out every use that thing will last forever. I have one that is going on 15 years old. Deck is about shot but the engine runs like a clock!

I bought myself a Honda self-propelled from Home Depot last year because my brother has one that is 15 years old and still runs great. His self-propel isn't working right now but I think it's because he hasn't replaced the belt. Mine will nearly pull me across the yard if I give it too much speed.
Honda for push mowers, Stihl or Echo for weed eaters and backpack blowers. You won't run one down for decades.

Make sure you get a Honda and not a Honda for Home Depot or a Honda for Lowes or from Walmart. You can tell what you are getting by looking at the serial number. If there is an HD or an L or an WM in it, they aren't using all of the best parts.
I had a horrible side hill for years and owned a self propelled mower by Ariens that really performed well for me. LINK . Might be worth a look.
