re: Citronella free bug solution? - TheriotAF on 4/1/19 at 9:25 pm They work very well here in SWLA. I have a patio that is tucked away with walls on 3 sides so that probably helps.... Posted on Home & Garden Jump to Post - View Topic - Replies (1) |
re: Planting Citrus tips - TheriotAF on 3/31/19 at 8:40 pm I want to say most people say not to the first year but I couldn’t help myself
One thing that will help is if you pick the blossoms off the first year. Let it focus on growing instead of producing fruit.... Posted on Home & Garden Jump to Post - View Topic - Replies (0) |

re: Planting Citrus tips - TheriotAF on 3/31/19 at 12:34 pm Try reading a few articles on pruning if you go that route. A lot of people just let them go naturally though.
For fertilizing I just set reminders to go off valentines, memorial, and labor days. My satsuma seems to like it.... Posted on Home & Garden Jump to Post - View Topic - Replies (1) |

re: Saturday H&G thread - what are you doing? - TheriotAF on 3/23/19 at 9:03 pm I’m sitting here on the back porch looking at my yard of dirt wishing it would warm up so I could plant my Bermuda seed that just came in. Going to see what this Princess 77 is all about.
Also thinking of an azalea bed in the front in the next few weeks. Or transplant my blueberries from the back... Posted on Home & Garden Jump to Post - View Topic - Replies (0) |
re: Ideas for a small tree/ bush for a small front yard flower bed - TheriotAF on 3/23/19 at 8:56 pm What is your max height you want?
I’m a big believer in edible landscaping so I would recommend a dwarf fruit tree or bush, especially blueberry. I know it isn’t for everyone though.... Posted on Home & Garden Jump to Post - View Topic - Replies (0) |
re: How to deal with a Bush full of bees/wasps - TheriotAF on 3/23/19 at 3:48 pm If its bees, they are probably swarming and will move out of the area. If they don't call a local beekeeper to come remove them. They will be happy to do so.
If wasps...torch it?
No but honestly that would depend on your exact situation (bush type, where in the yard, etc).... Posted on Home & Garden Jump to Post - View Topic - Replies (0) |

re: What should I expect on a quote to re-sod my backyard? - TheriotAF on 3/22/19 at 2:37 pm It was pretty easy for me. I had a sand heavy mix in Florida plus my dogs wore down the centipede that was in the backyard. So in the bare spots I put down St. Aug plugs. Within a year over 3/4 of my backyard was St. Aug. Just had to go heavy and often on the watering.
In the front yard I cut dow... Posted on Home & Garden Jump to Post - View Topic - Replies (0) |
re: What should I expect on a quote to re-sod my backyard? - TheriotAF on 3/22/19 at 1:52 pm I would assume most people get it because of affordability and reduced maintenance.
I had it in Florida and didn't like it though. I started introducing St. Aug to take over after being in the house a year.... Posted on Home & Garden Jump to Post - View Topic - Replies (2) |
re: What should I expect on a quote to re-sod my backyard? - TheriotAF on 3/22/19 at 12:26 pm $5000-$6000 range depending on the company, where you live, etc. for the sod.
Not sure about the additional services. My guess would be add on another grand but I could be way off. That would just be my estimate if I was doing it.

re: Getting rid of mosquitoes in south LA around a patio during the summer - TheriotAF on 3/21/19 at 3:49 pm I bought one lantern and 2 of the torches.
I haven't taken the torches out of the box yet. The lantern has been enough while on my back patio (17x17). We use a torch at my in laws and 1 has been enough for roughly the same area. Works very well. Just have to remember to change out the strip as di... Posted on Home & Garden Jump to Post - View Topic - Replies (0) |

re: Outdoor Fan recommendation - TheriotAF on 3/20/19 at 4:14 pm That's my fear too
I'll wait and see, I have a good one picked out at HD if the current one isn't adequate. re: New push mower... Honda or not - TheriotAF on 3/20/19 at 3:30 pm Second what Hubba said.
We got the same one he talks about to mow the yard at work. I was blown away with how quiet it is. I liked that it could sense the resistance and rev up when hitting the thicker stuff.
I'm half tempted to buy one now ... Posted on Home & Garden Jump to Post - View Topic - Replies (1) |
re: Outdoor Fan recommendation - TheriotAF on 3/20/19 at 1:15 pm To confuse you a bit, I have that same fan on my back patio right now. When I saw that after the builder had installed it I immediately started looking for a new fan to have him replace it with but lost track of time and forgot about it until it was too late.
To my surprise it moves a decent amou... Posted on Home & Garden Jump to Post - View Topic - Replies (1) |
re: Need ideas for an Outdoor kitchen - TheriotAF on 3/20/19 at 11:37 am Ventilation as it relates to your grill.
Last thing you want to worry about is preventing smoke build up under your patio and having to place a box fan just the right way to air the place out.... Posted on Home & Garden Jump to Post - View Topic - Replies (0) |
re: Tips on laying sod in front yard - TheriotAF on 3/20/19 at 11:11 am If there is St. Aug all around it except there, then I'd say it needs more sun than what that area is getting. St. Aug should be taking over if it is bare.
If you sod it, depending on light, you might keep it alive for a while, but it will be a constant struggle.
How big of an area are we talk... Posted on Home & Garden Jump to Post - View Topic - Replies (1) |
re: At&T Fiber Optic Internet - TheriotAF on 3/20/19 at 11:04 am Get your own router that is pppoe capable and use that.
I did it with centurylink fiber and it works great plus no monthly charge for their setup.... Posted on Home & Garden Jump to Post - View Topic - Replies (0) |
