Would love one day to have an in ground sprinkler system on automatic timers.

Until then I just have a simple sled sprinkler to start. I need about 2 to cover the front yard and maybe 3ish to cover the back yard. At least the parts we actively use.

Right now I use one in both yards until expenses die down then I will get the hoses and sleds to fill out being able to use multiple at a time.

I water 1/2” every other day with a Kelly day every fourth day. That gets me 1 1/2” per week. I subtract whatever I need to based on rainfall so I always get 1 1/2” each week. Plan to keep this up until I guess October? Then restart around march.

Haven’t had to pull out a sprinkler yet. Two summers ago it was a full time job.

People overwater more than under-water. Too much water leads to high potential of disease, excessive weeds, and can attract unwanted insects.
Mother Nature will eventually do the job.

For me, it's Mother Nature full time. I've said it before about lawn care-----I'm not fussed about it and it will do what it does without me fertilizing, weed killing, etc.

Just mow, edge and do my best to keep it neat.

I use an aqua joe for my small lawn.
I run it around 6 AM for 1-2 hours.

I’m gunna sound like an old man but I’ll never forget the summer of 2023… that was a fricking brutal 6-7 week stretch of 100 every day without a damn drop of rain

I learned that year that watering your cement slab is a thing.

I installed my sprinkler system 3 years ago and it's the first time I've had a sprinkler system. I did plant zoysia where the irrigation is so if you're spending money making your grass look nice, spend the time before that to install irrigation. I tried the timer watering with the hose, and hand watering before. I ended up moving the hose and forgetting to move it back, or forgetting to turn the water off so I'd get 6" one day and forget for the next two weeks. Irrigation is a nice luxury to have.

If it needs watering I grab a beer, and the hose. Do the old man watering thing where I drink said beer while spraying the lawn.

Hose dragger here. I use a variety of sprinklers.

Backyard is on a timer every 2nd day at 5:30AM. I have newly planted Zoysia intended

Front yard I yank the hoses and water each spot once or twice a week for an hour before the sun comes up. Depending on the rain fall expected.

Usually don't water regardless and this year, it's been when can I cut the lawn between days of rain?

racchio and pond water

the damn system has literally run about 3x all year so far

its finally drying up here but the rain-intelligence meant it would just tell me "nope, not watering today" every day I wake up.

We had just finished our pool and pool house build and had a landscaping company put in 15k worth of sod and landscaping. I should've spent some of that on an irrigation system. But like you said, for 6-7 wks, it took all I had to keep everything alive.

I have a hose with a sprayer that will shoot 20f or so.

When I have to pee I go out back and water the yard while going.

I learned this from my father
