I wonder how well the face covering thing worked out

I carried a mask made for running with me on a couple of trails last week. Since it was humid, I had trouble keeping it somewhere accessible without it getting soaked with sweat. Was 1. Almost impossible to use if I was actually exerting myself and 2. Probably just ended up venting out of the sides

The race isn't until the end of October, so we'll find out then. I plan to use a very light weight Buff and do whatever I can to avoid runners on the trail, even if I just have to stop for a few minutes. That way I basically only have to cover up in aid stations.

Oh, misread pretty severely. Hopefully the weather is agreeable. Probably won’t be as bad if so.

Buff is probably the way to go.

So I have a half marathon coming up in 2 weeks. First race in literally 25 years (high school cross country days). Just curious what people’s plans have been the week of a race. Do you keep your same routine? Rest more? Anything different with your diet or meal plan? Currently I’m just planning to do the same things I’ve been doing the last few months while training.

Took advantage of some mid 60s temperature this morning. First time in months I haven’t been completely soaked after a run. Bring on those fall temps!

Week 4 of MGCM training in the books. 14 weeks to go.

Not knowing your diet & nutrition during your training period, stick with what you know. Eat something you know sits well in the stomach that morning. I find a carb-focused dinner the night before does me better than a protein-focused (steak, pork tenderloin, chicken breast) meal. I don't necessarily "carbo-load" but meat just doesn't do it for me before a race. Additionally, I abstain from alcohol for the week leading up to the race. Also, make sure to stay hydrated in the days leading up to the race.

I'm guessing you've been following a race plan? Don't overdo it or think about adding more miles, even if it seems like a light weekly miles load.

Depending on the start time for your race, the trickiest part might be getting that morning BM out. Get up early and do whatever you do to get things going.

Roots,

Glad you had a good run. Thought Emily's husband was going to track you down and crack some skulls for asking for pics hahaha.

LMAO - Forgot I posted that & never went back and looked. Guessing it was deleted; can’t find it. Got that bad? shite was weird as hell to me. Inviting strangers to run with his wife and mentioning her name 500 times; figured I’d at least ask.

Cut my recovery run short today. Kids playing flag football at the high school like every Sunday. One of them passed out and I gave them my frozen bottle of water to help him out. Without water, I stopped at 5 miles out of caution. Kept the heart rate below 160 for the entire five miles.

Anybody got experience with Coros? My Garmin is getting progressively worse with pacing. Looking at the Coros Pace 2 as a replacement. Wondering how reliable it is as far as pace, GPS, etc.

Am I the only one rotating shoes?

I had more options in the past but am currently really struggling with my shoes. I had a pretty good stockpile of NB MTs (10, 100, 101, 110, etc) that I rotated through but they are all dead now. You can get the MT10 now but it was by far my least favorite and certainly not worth the $100+ price tag.

I'm currently rotating b/w a pair of Merrell Trail Glove 5 and a pair of NB mountain running shoes (don't remember the exact model number and there is no readable print on them now). I don't think either of these is a good option for my October 100 miler.

Does anyone have any feedback on Altra King MT 2? They are on sale today at Running Warehouse and I might grab a pair.

This weather has been fantastic. Ran twice over the long weekend and felt better than ever. These next three months are going to be bliss.

Put in my 7.25 this AM. 66 degrees feels like heaven compared to my afternoon runs over the summer. Paced at 9:15/mile.

Hey Roots, I’m curious too. My 235 is a real piece of shite. Not even a year and it has trouble finding satellites every week. The timer is off for intervals (when it’s working), and the pacing is all over the place.

Judging by all those baws in your hood and nawlens getting a mile in elevation on their Garmins per run, time to find a better solution.

Fo real. Mine is virtually unusable during my runs as anytime I'm in the slightest bit of shade (which is as much as possible), the GPS/Pace go haywire. DC Rainmaker gave a pretty good review of the Coros Pace 2, however the main negative and it's a big one for me, is no website application. To upload workouts and such. Not sure if I'm ready to give up the Garmin online interface. The Polar Vantage M is intriguing also, but I did away with my M430 due to it not connecting to my phone/apps. Looks like some of the same complaints on the Vantage M.

Ha, indeed. I think that's a strictly Fenix issue, but it's hilarious when dudes are banging out 2K' of gain running the LSU Lakes.

If you have the funds I say the forerunner 945 is worth it.

Fun story of the day:

Went to the running store for some new shorts. Found some NB 5" impact shorts that were in my size for $20 (original price of $49.95). Purchased and chose to wear them on my short run on Sunday. They felt a little tight and shorter than the 5" but overall a good fit. Felt great on the run. Went back to check the tag to order a second pair, googled the item number.... and they're women's shorts.

They were on the men's sale rack and had multiple sizes of the exact short. The guy at the register even commented that they were a steal and made no comment about the fact they were women's.

My Garmin keeps saying I'm running 8:00/mi, but I know it's more like 5:30/mi. POS.

Jokes aside, these watches are too damn expensive. 95% of my non-treadmill runs are on the same four or five roads. Since I know where all of the mile markers are, I just keep my watch on the timer setting and calculate my own splits.
