I don't really think about nutrition before a 5K, other than avoid alcohol the day before and no Taco Bell (Ha!, but serious).I'll eat toast and PB with honey the morning of a race, or Rx bar. Banana works too. Black tea helps get things moving. For the night before, fried chicken hasn't sat well for me, and steak just feels like a brick in my stomach. Limit dairy (no cream based sauces or soups, some hard cheese is OK).
Once I start getting above a 10K distance I plan out food and nutrition a couple days in advance. Eat simple foods like PB&J, chicken, pasta with light or no sauce, etc. Drink water or tea, avoid soft drinks. If I have time I make a coffee cake and eat a slice pretty much every morning of the week leading up to the race if I'm traveling a good distance or spending the night away from home. One thing I've been tinkering with is downing a small Red Bull about 5-15 minutes before a race.
I also have a minimal clue of what I'm doing or what should be done. I just go off of previous experiences during training and minor tweaks on race day.

Thanks. I know a lot of you are running more miles than that daily so it's probably something your normal diet doesn't really need to change for. I guess my biggest focus is a good night's sleep and something in the morning that won't weigh me down.

Just don't do this and you'll be fine

Sugar, lots of sugar and no flossing!
Kidding, don’t overthink it man. Eat what you normally eat just avoiding anything that may rock your stomach. You’ll be fine. Good luck; let us know how it turns out.

Currently third place on the TD weekly leaderboard. Second if we don’t count Burt because he’s non human. Suck it, assholes

Today's race was an overwhelming success. Finished in 1:45, about two minutes off my PR and my Garmin had this at 550 feet of elevation gain. Only the first and last miles were on pavement. Temp was 60° by the time I finished. The only downside was that water stations were barely attended to- of the 8 they had set up only two were maintained by volunteers and you had to pour your own (if there was even water left).

8 miles planned will get me over 50. We’ll see if it happens

McVick,
Very happy to see that for you since you have been training hard.
My 1st fitness test with coach & local runners was a cool and new experience. I have no track background so this was my first time ever on a track with a group.
He had me cover my watch with tape, turn off verbal alerts, and just focus on him calling out faster or slower every 400 meters. Based on what I needed & what he wanted to see we called it a success regardless of not being a PR.

Thanks Quail and RS. You both have been looking real strong in your runs as well and can't wait to see your trainings pay off.
Another great thing was that there were only 25 people in my Wave, so there was almost no one to dodge at the beginning.

Anyone worn Hurache Type Next? I couldn’t find 354’s. Have to wear Nike due to narrow foot high arch and not stability as hurts knees

Contrats to those of you who have continued getting out and putting in the miles. I continue to flounder, unfortunately. I haven't been able to put together a consistent training cycle for a few years now. The closest I got was last fall when I was at least able to get into race shape. I'll get there eventually. Just checking in and cheering the rest of of you on in the meantime.

The results are in for the race from last weekend. I placed in the top 40 overall out of 225 and 6th in my division. Overall winner was also in my division with a time of 1:16. I very happy with my results, especially for signing up two weeks before the race.
The marathoners also did really well, with some possible BQ times on a certified course. Overall winner was 2:35, and the top five were all u see 3 hours on a course with an elevation gain of about 1,000 feet.

And only two of those miles were on pavement? That's some pretty impressive running by you and those individuals that ran the times you posted.

That's it. Can confirm only the first and last miles for the half, but the full runners basically did an out & back on more snomobile trails after the 8th mile of the half course. There were a couple of spots with loose, sandy type gravel that reminded me of taking steps on a beach and access to drinking water/Gatorade was an issue.
Before this weekend the marathon course record was 3:00 and now it's 2:35 which seems incredible. However, with so few in-person races this season I'm willing to bet that racers who normally wouldn't show up came because of the limited live-timing and certified distance options

Anyone care to share some of their more unique workouts? Looking to add a little more variety to schedule. The monotony of KM and Mile repeats beats me down. This past Saturday, I ran 3 miles at my HM pace, followed by a 5 minute rest and a mile at 10k pace. Was going to mix it up this week or next and run 2 x 2M at HM pace, 3 Min Rest, and then a mile at 10k pace.
