Keto - eating meat and effects on heart health

So I started this 3 days ago wanted to go from lower 180s to upper 160s.
I want to wear a legit 32 dress pants again (with ease). Last week I was 33-34.
Well, I’m a bit concerned about my arteries given what I’ve been eating, but my step dad is convinced that ALL the doctors have always had it all wrong.
I’m always thinking the people who say that kind of stuff are fringe (step dad in this case).
So, PLEASE explain to me how my supper tonight was a healthy choice that promotes healthy living.
85/15 burger (cooked in butter in a skillet)
Shredded cheese
Two eggs cooked in the leftover burger-butter skillet
Two strips of bacon
A bit of mayo and mustard
Letttuce wrap
Literally zero carbs.

I mean, eating some broccoli, spinach, arugula , avocado , etc in there wouldn't have killed you.

It wasn't terrible but wasn't the best either. But perfectly fine in the context of health just not optimal.

If eating meat is bad for me, then I’m just going to die earlier than I should have.
The end
The end

I know it will be hard given the insane level of orthodoxy that has been shoved down our throats over these past decades, but you can do it.

Doctors have very little nutrition requirement in med school - and the shite they are taught is mostly wrong to begin with. That leaves them in the exact same boat as you...except the vast majority of them are too hidebound and/or lazy to do their own research to keep current. I mean this literally - the 4 or 5 most knowledgeable lay people just on this board are infinitely more educated on the topic than whatever doctor you might have in mind.
ALL the doctors have always had it all wrong.

I would have gone for an even fattier burger, but I declare it to be an excellent meal. With zero irony, I would describe this as "health food."

I ate like that for 3.5 weeks. I shite like 2 times that whole experience. And those two times were awful.

Yes of course. This is my first evening without a lot of greens. I was just really hungry and kind of shopped with my stomach (no breakfast and a fairly small 11:00 lunch).
So that’s my two meals for today. Just over 1,400 calories.
A glass of red and a square of dark chocolate will be my dessert when I finish mowing the lawn.

Wiping was like trying to get peanut butter out of shag carpet. Nasty gut rot the whole time.

Must be that constipation...or the fact that your body was adjusting - I bet it as latter more than the former.
And I laugh because I know exactly what you are talking about.
To the OP - you are fine eating this way.

Thats tough. If I dont get at least 1800 I feel like crap in the gym the next day. I cut back on weekends and eat at least the 1800 on weekdays. Its slowed my weight loss down some but I feel better overall.

Simple processed carbohydrates are a far bigger driving force for chronic disease than meat for sure. The idea that all fat is bad and eggs are the worst food ever is dated, incorrect thinking. Dietary cholesterol has little effect on serum cholesterol, and the only fat that demonstrably effects cholesterol or triglyceride levels in any relevant way are trans fats.
To answer your question though, it depends on which meats predominate in your diet. A diet high in lean chicken, seafood and eggs is relatively healthy. You want to avoid meat that is fried, especially those with trans fats (think KFC chicken). Red meat should be eaten in moderation. And you’ll want to take a fiber supplement.

Your mayo probably sucks unless you made it yourself or bought a good brand that uses avocado or olive oil only. Inflammatory PUFA bomb.
I'm not sure that was a particularly keto meal either. Macros too skewed toward protein.
(Not to be pedantic but your meal wasn't literally no carb--but effectively yes.)
And to all you who somehow stopped yourselves up, I have literally never experienced that on HFLC. Ever. Whether I eat a giant ribeye and nothing else or eat lots of greens. I don't know what the hell you guys are doing. Probably too much protein like OP. (I'll let you do your own research on how overrated "getting lots of fiber" is, in the context of a HFLF diet.)
If you really want to learn about the heart and specifically hyperlipidemia and atheroscleros, I cite again Ron Krauss and Malcom Kendrick (different perspectives for sure and Krauss is in his own league). I posted Krauss's appearance on Peter Attia's The Drive podcast yesterday. Look it up and enjoy the ride.

Well that settles it then, should never happen.
To the OP, I think your meal was fine although I'm not sure how sustainable for most people. The best diet is one you can make a lifestyle. My advice, don't listen to people that call doctors idiots (ie Junk, Big Scrub). They are like religious zealots except against everything but meat.

If I'd wanted to say "it should never happen," then I would have.
I clearly didn't say that and cited my own experience.
And based on that experience and the experiences of the many people I know who eat HFLC and discuss with me any side effects, it is easily preventable on a properly formulated diet.
What's with the trolling dude?

Well, to be honest, there's a Greek chorus in this thread of "oh yeah, me too" talking about how they experienced the same thing. I, myself, have not experienced that simply because of a meat heavy diet. Just another anecdote to add to the discussion.

quote:Ridiculous and untrue. It is demonstrably accurate the most doctors don't know shite about nutrition science. Hell, nutrition science itself is a huge mess. The "average" doctor looks at the same blood markers that we now know are basically irrelevant, and then makes lazy suggestions in line with historical orthodoxy (eat less fat, take some lipitor, etc.)
My advice, don't listen to people that call doctors idiots (ie Junk, Big Scrub). They are like religious zealots except against everything but meat.
I eat plenty of foods other than meat. The "religious zealotry" is on the anti-meat side, though. In this very thread, we have a doctor advising someone to opt for "lean chicken" over red meat. That is preposterously dated and bad advice. I would say in general that all mono-gastric animal meats are inferior to ruminants.

They aren't idiots but they aren't particularly well versed in nutrition either
