You proselytizers baffle me every time with your seemingly disdainful feelings towards bowel movements. I cherish my poops.

What are you talking about? Do you not know what a phantom shite is? I wish it happened every day. I will miss them.

No, I guess not. It sounds like the desire is there, but nothing really passes thru. what is a phantom poop?

It means you’ve got a clean arse without even wiping.

I upped. I actually get a lot of fiber due to my love of cacao and nibs, green veggies and good nuts. But I can eat nothing but steak, eggs and coconut oil for a week and be TMI normal.

I took my first shite today in about a week.

My whole life I’ve never been particularly regular, so, predictably, Keto was a challenge on that front. My wife, who is a shade tree herbologist suggested a tablespoon of chia seeds added to smoothies or protein shakes. They are also a source of Omega 3 FAs so it’s a win-win. Have to be careful to allow them to sit in water and expand first (20-30 mins) or it could backfire by drawing water out of your digestive tract. I started the seeds 1-2 times a day and no problems since.

Also, prebiotics and probiotics always, but that should go without saying.

What do you use as your prebiotic? If I can find some really green bananas I cut those up and put them in the freezer to put in a smoothie

Otherwise I just use some powdered inulin

Hyperbiotics is the brand.

i don't want to be a party-pooper (if you will...), but the omega 3s in chia (or any plant product) are barely useful for humans. Not saying don't eat chia or flax, but don't think you're getting much DHA/EPA.

Yep. Essentially, if it comes from plants, you can assume but a fraction of the claimed amount of micronutrient will be bio-available.

It's interesting that there isn't more pressure on Big Vegetable to accurately report on bio-availability.

My doctor mentioned that previous generations died of heart attacks because of how they ate and smoked...Guy specifically said that people used to cook in lard, and didn’t care about their bodies.

I feel that he’d disapprove of my keto aspirations based on the lard comment.

Young guy too. Thoughts??

Just hasn't kept up (at best). I think the starting point for every doctor who is that far behind should be Dr Ron Krauss. He is probably the lead living expert on lipoproteins. It's baffling and troubling that physicians are willy-nilly spouting malpratice-level bad advice with utter impunity.

eta: i would also research saturated fat on a low carb diet v. high sugar diet. there is good evidence SF is a very different beast under those different conditions. So, yeah, lard + bread and peach cobbler ala mode, no bueno. there are also APOE4 allele issues/LDL hyper-responders.

but the idea that lard is bad in and of itself is way outdated.

He's ignorant. There's probably some truth to the smoking part, but when he says "previous generations", you need to realize that the FIRST generation that started dying en masse of heart attacks only goes back to the early 1900s. Before that, heart attacks basically just weren't a problem. And guess what people were eating in the non-heart attack period...you guessed it: lard, butter and meat. MASSIVE amounts. Around 1915, that began morphing into margarine, crisco and other vegetable oils.

You keep saying this, but is it true or did we just not know what heart attacks or heart disease really were? I don't know the answer, I'm asking, though I doubt I'll get a real answer from you because everything is biased.

You seem hellbent on stalking me around this board and attacking me personally, but I'll ignore that in an attempt to get you back on track and just focused on the discussion itself.

Here's a link to a post on the topic I made in one of the other threads...and it has details linked to a primary source. I'm not sure how that is "biased" to make claims and then link supporting evidence, but whatever.
