I've never done a "Carnivore" diet, sounds good. I'll definitely read up on it.

Sounds like this would be a $$$ diet. Take advantage of Brookshires buy one get one for a .01

I'll try to keep you guys updated on results and cost.

I can tell I'm back in ketosis after a big cheat weekend for a 4th party we had this wkend. I finished off a bunch of leftover burger patties we had, which would be an easy and inexpensive option.

I'm not getting hungry at all during the 16hr fast, but when I start cooking I'm salivating like Pavlovs dog. My gf actually used the word "savage" to describe how I devoured my ribeye and her leftover piece

Guys,

If I wanted to implement some fasting into my regimen with Crossfit 4x/week, how would you suggest going about it?

My thoughts would be to fast on non-workout days (3 days/week, basically) and eat on WOD days. But I'm far from an expert.

I am considering it. Maybe start on a 16hr and work my way into 24hr fasts. It has been a long time since I fasted at all. I really want to hit my goal of 240 this year, and with a kid coming in a few months I feel a pressing need to do something to get to my goal more quickly than I originally planned.

How often do people fast like y’all are talking about? Like once a month type thing? Just drinking water only?

I do it every day except Sundays usually bc I like to have breakfast with the kids and wife.

Now when you get to the 24hr and beyond it seems like 2-3 times a week depending on your goals. I thought about fasting for 24 today. It’ll be more like 20 though.

Wtf is up with people of this board wanting to start a fitness and health journey, yet first question they ask is can I drink?

Alcohol and coffee. No diet or plan or life change, whatever you want to call it, is keeping me from these two. I am dead serious.

On off days start with 16-18 hour fast to start. From there you can extend slowly to 20 the second week to eventually omad after 2 weeks on off days. To eventually not eating on off days and eating a bigger portion on cf days before the workout to fuel the workout.

Joe Rogan recently interviewed Jordan Peterson on again recently. His diet explanation is very straightforward - I timestamped the link so they go straight into it.

His daughter's (Mikhaila Peterson) blog

This was really interesting as I suffered for years with autoimmune stuff too until I made a lot of changes to diet. I'm kind of surprised, however, that she and her dad can get away with the red meat as it is known to be inflammatory.

Junky, did you start eating this way due to health issues?

Red meat is only inflammatory if you don't balance Omega 3 with the Omega 6. High quality red meat and especially grass fed red meat is known to be anti inflammatory for the record.

I heard that and it was awesome. However, I'm skeptical of his claim that the reason/excuse for his poor performance on Sam Harris' podcast was that he was suffering the effects of a cheat day (which he went to pains to point out is much worse now.)

IMO, the best perspective being widely shared right now is by Dr. Ted Naiman, who somewhat aligns with the carnivore diet but adds in plenty of "low sugar vegetables" - a very protein first, minimal carb diet.

Dr. Naiman always emphasizes nutrient density. That's why he says it's OK to have a portion of heirloom potatoes but not OK to have a Russet.

He has an interesting background - educated as a 7th Day Adventist (both undergrad and MD). An explicit part of that religion is vegetarianism. He realized one day that he was a pasty, skinny blob, despite religiously adhering to a diet that was supposed to be healthy. Now, he essentially eats steak and eggs for every meal...and he's a ripped motherfricker (he also only does body weight exercises.)

He does eat some "vegetables" like peppers and cucumbers, but make no mistake: he absolutely believes that ZERO vegetables are required by your body.

Their case is very interesting. It's hard to extrapolate their anecdotal experience to average people, but it is something to keep in mind for people with chronic inflammation issues and very interesting. I'd like to see research on the topic.

Makes you wonder: what in the vegetables makes them symptomatic, and why? Also, does whatever they're eating cause lower - yet chronic all the same - levels of inflammation in the rest of us who seem to not be symptomatic?

On a personal level, my thyroid issues all point to Hashimoto's (haven't taken the antibody test yet for an official diagnosis, but I'm going to suggest that at my next appt) and it makes me wonder if there's chronic inflammation in my own body causing it.

He truly does look much healthier in his skin tone, baggy eyes, etc.

No, no supplements. Honestly most are garbage and not absorbed in any significant manner.
Yup. Also, most of the micronutrient claims made with regard to vegetables are bogus also, as only a small fraction of the quoted nutrients are actually bio-available.

Things like red meat get a bad name because they aren't absolutely loaded with, say, magnesium. But the relatively smaller amounts they do contain are almost 100% bio-available. Also, your body needs way less of things like Vitamin C and magnesium in a low-carb environment.

Almost every single vegetable pitched to us by the media and the medical establishment as "essential" were bred just in the past 1500 years from the same exact weed. Brassica We'd have to be horrible idiots to believe that they were vital to our survival based on that history.

If I remember correctly (and I could be wrong) but the fiber story started in the 30's when some British lad traveled down to Africa and found these baws eating fiber and being healthy as an oxe. Their fiber amount? 30 grams a day.

And the reason fiber makes you take a shite is because we know as we eat it that 85% of the vegetable is indigestible...so of course we have to shite it out. Circular reasoning is circular.

I'd go on record saying all fresh red meat, grass or grain, is known to be anti-inflammatory.
