Further, this whole "paleo" movement of finding our natural diet seems to be more so interested in atavistic ideals that are assumed to be better for us out of basic instinct rather than reason and science. Just because cavemen were launching spears at bison and fish doesn't mean we are meant to copy their ways.
If your body was evolved to thrive off of certain foods, then it would stand to reason that hewing to that as closely as possible is the best for health/longevity. At the very least, why should we just make the casual assumption that kale and brussel sprouts are ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY given they've only existed for less than 1% of the time we've been around?

In terms of the food, yes

My workouts have gone to complete shite though. Noticeable dip in stamina and energy. Hope I adjust

The adaptation can be like adapting to keto. I never had a boost in energy, but brain fog completely went away. It was laser-like focus. Actually heading back into this woe before football has me pack on 10lbs.

Wtf is up with people of this board wanting to start a fitness and health journey, yet first question they ask is can I drink? Bunch of fricking alcoholics on here.

What the hell do you do with your time if you don’t drink?

I've been meaning to add some links in the thread. I may add more as this is all just from one site that is a grouping for this sort of information.

The Fat of the Land by Vilhjalmur Stefansson - A book about the Arctic explorer's ways of eating in the hostile conditions. An adventure story as well.

Bellevue Hospital Experiment
quote:

Two normal men volunteered to live solely on meat for one year, which gave us an unusual opportunity of studying the effects of this diet. The term “meat,” as used by us, included both the lean and the fat portions of animals.

Vitamin C and Disease: Insights from the
Evolutionary Perspective

quote:

Even though the amount of dietary vitamin C consumed on an animal meat-fat based diet may be lower as compared to dietary intake from some fruits and vegetables, the former may ensure a higher bioavailability of vitamin C. We believe that loss of vitamin C synthesis was not deleterious in the ancestral environment humans are evolutionary adapted to. Rather, a mismatch between our current diet and ancestral physiology may explain why deficient levels of vitamin C are associated with disease. Instead of supplementing vitamin C, changing our nutrition as a whole and adopting a meat-fat based diet, even if it may sound a radical solution, may be a better choice to support vitamin C homeostasis. Bearing in mind that ”nothing in biology makes sense except in the light of evolution”

The last one is important and is true of other micro-nutrients than just Vitamin C. It's almost certainly true for magnesium.

The Vitamin C trope has been in full gear since orange juice was foisted on the population as a "health food".
