Any ideas for farmers carries in home gym without heavy dumbbells?

I’m considering building something like this:

I was also thinking about a hex bar but I don’t know if my arms being further out from my sides would mess with the effectiveness

Any other homemade type contraptions you have seen?

That picture makes me think plates over 25lb would be banging together constantly.

Open trap bar is definitely simpler.

You could always do double heavy sandbags.

You mean like the left side hitting the right side? I didn’t think of that. All my plates are bumpers so same size.

Just buy dumbbells if you’re going to build that.

75s are like $100 a piece for cheap ones.

I actually did this. It was great but they take up a lot of room. If you have a curl bar, get another one. They have handles you can buy for farmer carryies. Also you could get a kettlebell and carry it with a wide resistance band it makes your farmer carries so much more difficult.

Seriously considering this and pretending I’m in a Rocky montage.

Where are you located? If you are close to Prairieville and an email address..... I have a trap bar you can come get for a minimum cost.

Seems like a nightmare trying to get both balanced front to back.

Get some robust 5gallon buckets and fill them with cement. Should weight 95-100 lbs each.

Could you just make the handles like in the picture then slide concrete blocks over the 4x4 for weights?

I've actually been holding the weight out as far as I can, and I find it's extremely more effective. My core is even more engaged.

I was doing three sets of about 40 yards with 70lb. Famer's Carry and 90lb. Briefcase Carry.

Extending my arms out, I'm dropping each by 15-20lbs. I say all of this to say...I bet a hex bar would work pretty good, but you're limited to that fixed grip. I personally use kettlebells.

Appreciate that. I think I may have one lined up though.

Buy two of these with lids, and fill with water.

Excerpt from Mingo's Training Log

"I tried to use Home Depot buckets, but they were taller than I am. I had to buy these instead"
