So, for the record, you're OK with a player that's tied for 9th in career majors not being in the hall of fame?

Not particularly.

I’m just for establishing criteria and letting players earn it.

Winning majors should be a big criteria.
I think 3 separates hall of fame from others.

Winning on tour should count as well.
15, 20? I’m not sure where you draw the line.

The original thread was about overrated players.
Couples is overrated relative to how great the media raves about him.

Greg Norman was a better golfer.

I think he had some depression issues and said frick and cashed out a 10 million dollar insurance policy.

Or got caught with his nose in the booger sugar too often and was run out of town by the PGA before their reputation was tarnished. Dude was a true cocaine cowboy and the PGA paid him to keep his mouth shut.

He apparently had some epic ragers. Would kill a fifth of tequila a night to go along with the nose candy, then shoot 64 the next morning.

I pick Fowler be cause there was more expectations of him in my opinion.

Or maybe he's just more popular. I don't get why Fowler hasn't won more. His short game is great and his tee to green doesn't get him into too much trouble. Not sure why he doesn't win more. Approach shots just not good enough??

So you think 20 guys ever should be in the hall of fame? That's an absurd take, Els, Milroy, and Ballesteros wouldn't be hall of famers.

Well, you have to have some sort of required accomplishments to enter the HoF right? Or else it's just a subjective popularity contest.

Not quite sure how I would do it. I think maybe 1 major and 10 wins would be the least. I don't know though...

Kuchar is another strange one. Hard to say he has underachieved but never winning a major is a big miss for him.

If you win 10+ you're probably getting close. 17 wins is top 50 of all time.

Maybe. But the guy was top 10 in World Golf Ranking for over 8 straight years. Finished top 3 in money 4 times. He won over 20 tournaments and solidified HOF status by Winning the Players (2x) and a major. He was sort of like Wisconsin basketball. Frustrating to follow and missed out on the big prize a lot, but when you look back both won a heck of a lot.

Maybe I'm off base here but DJ seems like a surefire HOF to me.

Sorry, meant to say "struggling/finishing."

Not yet. Needs more majors.

ETA: Nevermind. I didn't realize he has 24 wins. He is good enough.

You can't underachieve unless you were highly touted coming out. Finau was on the Big Break and wasn't anything special until recently. He is good and he should have probably won more tournaments. But he hasn't underachieved imo.

That's like saying Keegan Bradley or Hunter Mahan underachieved.

Rory has underachieved.
