Completely unrelated to each other.

It did objectively well.
TV ratings does not automatically equal "doing well", which is why your nonstop threads about it made no sense.

If tweet fails to load, click here. The current PGAT regular events (29) total event purse is $226.9M. Not only are they lowering the amount of “regular” Tier 2 events from 29 events to at least 20 events, but they are also lowering the total purse amount of those events, as mentioned above the total purse for those events currently sits at $226.9M and they are going to lower it to a paltry $80M ($4M avg. X 20). That’s a total purse DECREASE of $146.9M for those Tier 2 events when compared to the current regular tour events.

This is why there will be no challenge series. Those events who have a business model to operate under the old system, will not be able to function at those funding levels. They are PGA Tour events, not Korn Ferry events. They will mostly fold and there won't be enough events to fill the schedule. Minus a merger with Korn Ferry, they are done and the tour will not replace them.

Don’t wanna be in Tier 2? Play better. I have no sympathy for any of them. They’re still playing a game for millions of dollars. Go play in Asia or get a real job
Shrink the game.
Shrink the Tour.

There's two LIV players who have lifetime memberships on the PGA Tour, Phil and DJ. It will be interesting if they say, "Okay, boys, I'm ready to come back. I see Brooks was welcomed back with open arms. I'll see you at Pebble Beach next season."
Posted on 6/24/26 at 7:09 pm to SoFla Tideroller
Imagine if you left your company, slandered them with multiple lies in the media, and led a lawsuit against them
Think you would be welcomed back?
DJ will be fine. Phil not so much. He ain’t just “leave for LIV”, he did all of the above

If Phil wanted to go to the mattresses and took it to court, how do you think it would go?

My man there’s a better chance you’ll see me on a tour event next season than there is you see Phil.

I agree, but it'd be interesting if he pressed the issue. Personally, I don't think we'll ever see Phil again.

I do remember when DJ left he resigned his membership. That plus LIV likely removes his exemption.
However, I think he went about it the right way. Resigned and didn’t join the lawsuit (iirc) and never really said anything negative about the tour and kept his comments to wanted to do LIV, time off, money, etc.

Late to the thread obviously but the “big name guys” so if Rory has a bad year he can go down? Or he’s always there just bc of who he is?
I guess more realistically someone like Spieth would be on the lower tier?
It could make for some interesting drama towards the end of the year if guys are fighting not to get relegated, at least on full swing

Rory probably wouldn’t mind being “relegated”. Would just play the Masters, PGA, and British off past winner exemptions. And I think he has a 5 year exemption into the US Open too.

The top 130 will be in the Championship level. Yes, it is possible that these big names could end up relegated, but even Spieth is at #51 in the FedEx cup right now. So, he is not close to in being in jeopardy.
Right now, the first 5 people out of that level (if it started tomorrow) would be Hank Ledbioda, Takumi Kanaya, Sam Ryder, Chris Kirk, and Sami Valimaki.
The Shotgun Start brought up a good point in their pod on this. They are trying to build drama for the last event by having a cut throat line. The only issue is they plan to do a fall series where Challenger Level people play with non qualifying Championship level people to get to the top tier. While that could be pretty cool (sort of like the promotion playoffs to get in the EPL), I feel like it would diminish the impact of the previous season cut line.

The very last thing FIGJAM wants is open-ended discovery in a civil litigation matter related to his conduct leading to the formation and management of LIV.
He repeatedly made statements (publicly and privately) that he knew to be false in order to bolster interest and support for LIV and harm the PGA. And beyond his behavior via-v-vis LIV, the discovery process could and would wander into countless other of his personal and professional transgressions (some likely illegal, some likely creating civil liability, and some simply embarrassing).
There's a reason FIGJAM has disappeared in 2026 as LIV dies its inevitable death, and his absence has little to do with a family member's health.

I think that's another thing that some people are weirdly anticipating that you'll have at least a few big names in the challenger series every year. That's not going to happen more years that not, and if it does happen, there's like one or two names in golf that would still draw people to watch them despite being outside of the top 100ish golfers.
And those one or two names are 100x more likely to just retire/play a major schedule than bump around the b-tier tour.
Also what's going to happen if someone is in decent form to start the year, but then gets injured early and falls outside of the top 120/130 due to only playing a couple of events? They're just screwed out of the top league because they got injured?

Weird for Mickelson to blow up the game and restructure incentives toward top players at a point where his career is/was basically over.
It’s amazing how desperate you get when your gambling addiction takes over your life.

Do you think Tiger or the PGA would want open-ended discovery?

These guys have been golfers their entire life. This is what they do. There is huge incentive to work to get back to the top level. Guaranteed 15+ starts all with 20 million dollar purses. You could also potentially win twice on the challenger tour and get auto promotion.

This is the big question mark that they admitted is not sorted out yet. This is why they will have 90 guys stay safe from the Championship, 20 guys get promoted from the challenger, and still have 20 spots needing to be filled. They will have to find the mix of major medicals, fall series, DP World Tour, and PGA Tour U.
