And thank god we don’t have a world tour. No clue why any American golf fan would want that over what he had or currently have Glad Jay said frick off to that. It’s an American tour
I don’t understand this thinking at all, unless you plan on attending every event. The Tour will always be focused on America because of the money, but I care more about the courses they play than the location. Give me a Royal Melbourne, Royal County Down, etc over a TPC Whatever any day of the week. It seems like Rolapp realizes venues matter, hopefully.

Yeh, the tour was so flush with cash they sold to PE

Again, how is that Phil’s fault?

Phil said the tour was sitting on billions and not paying players what they could. Truth is that was completely inaccurate and in order to increase purses to fight for survival against the rival tour championed by Phil the tour had to sell out to PE
The above holds zero opinions. Just facts on what happened.

With 120 players, only between 50 and 60 will make the cut, as opposed to the 75-80 that usually make it, so that's 25 less players they have to pay. Add onto that far fewer events. It's pretty obvious where the savings are. You're paying fewer players fewer times a year.
If the proposed changes come to fruition, they're paying $20 million purses 18x a year. That's $360 million. That's just for the tier one tour. The tier 2 tour is expected to have $4 million purses. That's $72 million for the year. SO before the FedEx Cup playoffs, just in prize money, they're allocating almost half a billion in prize money. How exactly do you see those numbers and say they're cutting costs? Cutting players =/= cutting expenses

I don’t think anyone is walking out of the LIV debacle with a bigger black eye than Phil. Personally and professionally.

The tour can and now is paying their big names quite a bit more. That’s the point Phil was making and forcing.
This statement still ignores the suggestion that the tour could improve its revenue by being in larger markets (something it is also doing now).

The tour had to sell out to PE to do all of that. Their trajectory without the infusion was going to lead to their ruin.

After reading alot of this thread, I am in the minority by saying I like this. I think it is going to be very fun to watch.

But I thought you said The PGA tour was doing GREAT, they were already doing what LIV did, LIV was dead, and no changes were needed?

I agree. The cons of this new setup don't really impact me (Changes for guys below 130 and Korn Ferry, lost appeal of some tournaments for locals). So, I am excited for what is to come. I am especially excited for whatever the post season is. If they can pull off having a match play event that the pros care about winning, that alone will make this a success. That's a big if though.

Zurich is pissed. They put big dollars into the PGA and get a crappie event. They are not happy!
Posted on 6/24/26 at 3:46 pm to lsupride87
So it turns out that they weren't really doing great, just acting like it, and had to make big changes to stay competitive.
Posted on 6/24/26 at 3:51 pm to The Pirate King
No you absolute dumbass. They were doing great until an entity willing to go billions in the hole as an absolute failure forcing their hand to grossly overpay their own players to survive

No, that's not what you said previously. You said everything was great for the PGA even with LIV existing, and that the PGA hadn't even done anything different than before (limited fields, elevated events, 54 hole tournaments, etc.)

I don’t think you want to read your own receipts on this topic bud

The PGA tour increased ratings when LIV became a thing…
It did objectively well. Don’t know what else to tell you. It just isn’t sustainable to grossly overpay player
Hence why liv is taking 100 million dollar loans currently just to end their year
