Saw that today, it looks nasty, the color of vegetable oil

I thought it was moonshine too, before i read the article. I'm definietly intrigued and will try it.

Jack Daniels just started selling unaged white whiskey. I've had two different kinds. Hated both.

Evan Williams has been doing this for years in the "TryBox Series". Unaged whiskey is quite simply the most vile and repugnant alcoholic beverage I've ever encountered. I gave the bottle away to a friend after one sip and I understand it's been given away twice since...

I bought a bottle of the Maker's White from the distillery. It's not aged like normal bourbons/whiskeys. Personally, I loved it. Completely different flavor profile that would finish with notes of rich chocolate. I always had a flask of it in my back pocket at social functions. That is, until it ran out. It was a sad day.

A flask of white whiskey at social functions?
You are either homeless or have a problem.

another product being hyped by a reality show. why do you think we haven't seen "white whiskey" on shelves until just recently? Because it's nasty...

No comment for obvious reasons but this version gets aged in oak barrels for a while.

I'm sure that's better than completely unaged.. i'd still rather mine stay tucked away in a cellar in Kentucky for 8+ years

How are these white whiskeys only 80 proof? I thought they were nearly pure alcohol until aging. Maybe I have a lot to learn about distillation.

They are cut, water is used on most brands to get a constant alcohol content...

They've been selling that for years, as either Diesel or Everclear.

There's a lot of funny in that post.

Or I was a grad student at the time and I'd rather drink something I enjoyed than Bud Light out of a keg. Gee, what a scumbag I must have been.

Anybody taste what they call "moonshine" in a jar. Going to Gatlinburg in a few months and their main store is there. They sell a bunch of versions of their shine. Was curious if anyone tried any of their favors. I did see a jar of cherries they sold soaked in moonshine at Sams. But I'm looking to taste their White Lightning version.
