Good man.

Just...just eat the Tandem breakfast sandwich. It sounds dumb, but god dammit, it' good. Get the sausage, let it be a thing. It's a pain in the arse to make sure you're awake, but it's genuinely worth it. And they are good for coffee too, and you're probably going to get coffee anyway, so just be efficient.
Old Trillium brewer, back when they still made good beer on the regular. A lot of their stuff tastes like Trillium circa-2017, which is a good thing.

Central Provisions is a must do. A lot of good recs here already, so I’ll just throw out that you should definitely get the breakfast sandwich and coffee from Tandem. You’ll almost certainly need to order online the morning of because it routinely sells out. It ain’t fancy, but it’s damn good.

lollllll at the suggestion that Ohio or Georgia are culinary Meccas that transcend Commander's.

Call Commander's what it is, it's dated for sure, but it's a good meal.

On that note, check out Tree House’s YouTube channel sometime. They’ve really invested in on-site consumption and amenities throughout their footprint, it’s pretty crazy when you compare to local taprooms.

I'd love to have this discussion. Tree House doesn't make any kind of sense. In a time when the market is actively and perhaps even aggressively contracting, Tree House is expanding. And making money. There is literally weekly communication about the numbers for the week, and how they stack up against the same week historically. It's wild. TH churns out countless new SKUs, you can argue about the quality, but the volume that is moved, mostly of IPA, and NEIPA, is absurd. Sure, lager is growing, and there are other offerings, but IPA is what is driving it. And in regards to the point about on-site consumption, up until about 3 months ago, on-site consumption was limited to 3 beers per person. It was only recently that they said drink up on Monday-Thursday -- weekend limits still exist.

It's a fascinating business model that somehow works when everything says it probably shouldn't.

Zest the lemon, minimizing pith as much as possible. I used 10 lemons for a quart mason jar. Fill it up with vodka, preferably 100+ proof. Into the bath, sous vide set to 135°. 2 hours later turn off the circulator and let cool to room temp before straining. Dilute with simple syrup to taste and store refrigerated. Low heat expedites the extraction, so much quicker than storing for days/weeks/months.

I second this method, very simple. Going to do it again soon, but last time we used wayyyyy too much simple syrup based on a recipe. I think the recipe called for almost 1:1. Gonna back it off to 2:1 or maybe even 3:1 and see how it goes.
Thanks for the heads up! Henckels are not my favorite knives, but they are unquestionably solid knives. I'll gladly spend $50 to have it lying around as a back-up knife.

re: Craft brewer doing blind tastings

Nate and Tree House are some of the best around. There's genuine love for the craft with a complete lack of pretension there. They just want to make beer, make it quality, and make people happy. I enjoyed these videos, but it also checks out with what I already knew. Tree House is low key making some outstanding lagers -- they're not Hill Farmstead or Suarez, or Sacred Profane or Notch, or Halfway Crooks, but they're making tasty brews. In fact, one of their Helles would be at the top of my list for 2023. Just outstanding.

Lager is growing, and it's time for it.

How do I get put on standby as the designated Boston area contact? I don't check this thread frequently, but when I do, like tonight, and I see people drinking Tilted Barn and the Trillium/VitaminSea collab, I get sad.

Drink with me, people. Please. I need to get rid of some of this beer. I have too many "It's a special occasion" beers fricking up my fridge storage space. I have to meal prep. And where is a gumbo gonna go? We're like two weeks away from being sub-50 degrees, and the gumbo pot takes up space.
Hen is obviously great, but Honey Road is always a must visit. Order as much as you can share.
Stein's Deli

The Kelly

Prosciutto
Delice du Bourgogne
Thinly sliced green apple
Ciabatta

I mean, come on. You're getting this incredible salty/acidic/rich blend? On ciabatta? Shut up.

The cheese, the delice, I've found it at Whole Foods -- cheeseboard game changer. Bought it whenever I see it and I would drag my old socks in it. It's that good.

Is this a WOWYHI?

Because this feels like a fricking TRAP

Wow wonder if it will be like equilibrium where it’s all shelf turds by the time it gets down here. Could be awesome if done right to grab some trillium from heb though

Doubtful that will be the case. If I had to guess, I'd say it's more likely direct-to-consumer shipping, maybe with some kegs being sent down as a way of celebrating opening a new market. That's what has been done in the past when Trillium has entered new markets in NH, VT, PA, KY, NE, and D.C..

TX people, what are the laws like for that sort of direct-to-consumer shipping?

I would be very surprised if Trillium entered into distribution agreements for package when they don't distribute package in MA.

When I last ate at PM's, I received a bowl or gorgeous shrimp swimming in oil with a few flecks of seasoning, the flavor of which was undetectable. I think I ate one and left the rest. It was so very disappointing.

Ya know, I popped in this week and this kinda matches up with what we experienced. A little black pepper flavor, but pretty mild overall.

We've made the Mr. B's recipe at home a few times and it is significantly more flavorful.

Lying arse

I poured you one or five beers before at our beer garden

It was a good day. I was just sad I didn't get cut early enough to enjoy one (or five) with you.

BUT if y'all come up again, please text me. If you no longer have my number, you can always get me at my username@gmail

Let's eat some lobstahs and drink some lagahs. But for real. I'll take you to my favorite brewery that basically only does lagers and you'll feel like you're at Live Oak (except maybe better? Not sure, I really like Live Oak's Hef)

Man, I had a college basketball game for PS3 years ago and that was the best thing ever. I can't remember what it was for the life of me. But I remember recruiting kids, and that was legitimately exciting.

Trillium lol

It’s a hustle. Tips ain’t bad. Most weeks I only work one shift. Truth be told, it’s mostly because I love the people I work with, but I guess my W-2 surprised me this year. I figure I’ll have to give it up in the next year or so, but I’m enjoying it for now. Keeps me young.

…I have a fricking podiatrist appointment Monday, and a rheumatologist appointment Wednesday. Just fricking bury me

I told my friend/manager at my side hustle I’d crash at her place while she was out of town because her dog is a ticking time bomb. He’s perfect. Minus the whole heart that has a fuse on it and we don’t know when it was lit part. Look at this good boi. He’s here for a good time, maybe not a long time.

Anyway, she lives literally across the street from my side hustle, so my “commute” to work tomorrow is non-existent and she told me to raid her fridge. Tough life.

Been a minute, Kim. Enjoying a rare day to myself. Was gonna make groceries at my usual spot, but then I saw a place near me had Hill Farmstead’s Twilight of the Idols on tap. Porter with coffee, vanilla, and cinnamon. And since I’m here, might as well sample a few oysters. The East Cape from Prince Edward Isle were my favorites today.

I’d rank the Fidens 3124
