NOLA Cuisine means pile on the spices since we can't cook like we used to.

Stop going to garbage tourist traps if that is what you really think.

NY is #1 by a wide margin. The fight can go all over the places for the other city rankings depending on what you are looking for.
Nola is in every top five list with anyone with half a brain so that makes me happy.

NOLA, for the simple reason that we have our own unique cuisine. Doesn't matter if you have high quality chefs move to a huge city in high volume simply because it's a huge city - like New York. What makes a great food city a great food city is originality.

I think the issue is some people incorporate ambiance and decor into their meal appreciation. That was not the question here.

Yes, you all are right about SF,CHI, NYC, CHI, HOU and other towns having pleasant atmosphere conducive to a nice meal.

BUT, the best food money can buy is in the midwest. IMHO.

"In the states of places I've been

1. NYC
2. San Francisco
3. Chicago
4. Houston
5. New Orleans "

This is a true answer . All the homers in here will say Nola but Houston is better . Sorry it just is. Nola has some great spots just not as many as Houston

The main question in this thread needs to be more specific. Or maybe just clear it up for me

I think there's a difference between having cuisine that originated in its own region and a city that just serves food from other places

And fwiw this is an argument that could go on forever

ETA: didn't read the whole thread.. this is exactly what I meant but he worded it better

Hate me all you want, but no food I love more than grubbing down in Baton Rouge when I visit

It is easily New York. Then San Francisco. That's not even debatable. You should be arguing over who's in third place.

This is a list of every Michelin starred restaurant in the US, fwiw.

Chicago Alinea
Chicago Grace
New York City Jean Georges
New York City Le Bernardin
New York City Per Se
New York City Masa
New York City Eleven Madison Park
New York City Chef's Table at Brooklyn Fare
Yountville, California The French Laundry
St. Helena, California The Restaurant at Meadowood
San Francisco Benu
San Francisco Saison
Los Gatos, California Manresa
San Francisco Quince

That's such a hip insider perspective. How did you come to be so intimate with this jewel of the lone star state?

He probably ventured out of that rat infested, crime-ridden corrupt shithole of New Orleans and found out why so many people have moved away to enjoy better lives and better food.

Travel and Leisure Best Food Cities in U.S. Readers Poll

I used to wonder if people overstated how good the food in New Orleans is, but the more I visited other places, the more I realized why outsiders raved about New Orleans' food so much. There may be more variety in other places, but in New Orleans you can go to some place while you're on the go that looks like you could get mugged and shot if you don't get out of there quickly and end up feeling like you had a better meal (for 10 bucks) than you would have had if you were at some celebrated 5-star restaurant.

Yup, we don't need to import culture like Houston.

That's probably true. My big three would be NYC, NOLA, and SF.

Edit: That's true for music, too.
