The end of this past summer, in Dothan, AL. Was driving my daughter and all her stuff from graduate school at College of Charleston back to Metairie, and that was where we broke the trip in two and spent the night.
But why Applebees?
Daughter's choice, she had recently seen the movie and said, "Dad, you'll think this is dumb, but I have a hankering for Applebee's".
Like most dads, I spoil my daughters, and agreed to go.
It was actually pretty good, I had a couple of well-made call brand cocktails and a perfectly cooked steak, along with some non- descript sides, don't remember what she had but she said hers was good. I think the total bill with tip was around $60/$70, about half what it would be in one of our usual non- chain restaurants around New Orleans.

It was back when Muhammed Ali died. I can't remember what I was doing but I was out of town and the Applebees was the best seeming thing next to the hotel. I saw Ali's death reported on the bar TV.

We had a brand new one open up 15 years ago very close to where we lived and the food was actually not bad. I enjoyed the burger many times. It was well run and clean. Didnt last long in that location though

I vaguely remember going once with my high school boyfriend. That’s all I got. Even my family, who weren’t exactly food connoisseurs, never went.
We were a Chili’s family

I remember Chili's was so good back in the 90's. Like we actually looked forward to going to Chili's for a family night out. Now they are about on par with Applebee's as far as dining considerations.....

One on Airline Hwy in Baton Rourgeeee had a brawl during COVID when the "patron" started whooping up on the hostess with the wet floor sign...

Last visit was about 12 years ago. Had one near my work and it stormed badly one afternoon and the streets were flooded so I stopped in for a beer.
What I remember…
Squeeze cheese smeared all over the bar near me.
Sticky mess of some kind right in front of me.
Trash all over the floor.
Tables all over full of dirty dishes.
Nasty arse servers standing around bitching about everything.
Some kind of crappy smell in the place.
I would go to a Chilis but never again to Apple Bees.
Chilis used to have awesome nachos.

I have been maybe 5 times in 40 years and then only because someone dragged me there.

I always wonder how the one in Lafayette has survived. We lost a Bennigans, TGIFriday’s, Chili’s, Hooters and Cheddars all within a half mile radius of the place by the mall. I never see a crowd there. Been once, about 20+ years ago, when they had the “Riblets”.

Many years ago, my wife was an Applebee's waitress in Savannah. She will never eat there. She insists on others also not eating there.
There's a Kennesaw Applebee's on the corner of Dallas Highway and Barrett Pwy that used to be a hangout for the punk rock kids that grew up loitering at the next door waffle house. As they turn 21, they switch over to the Applebee's bar. Some nights would be standing room only. One of my punk rock friends eventually married the bartender.
I don't ever remember it being terrible but I only ever ordered basic shite like a hamburger and light beer.

I can proudly say that I've never been to an Appleby's, an Arby's maybe 3 times and it's been decades since I ate anything from either Burger King of McDonalds.

That part of town soured. We have been looking for a better location for some time now. The others probably saw the writing on the wall as well

And it was the only time I've been there. It wasn't terrible, kind of a Chili's clone when Chili's was going to shite.
