I second Texas Road House, their pork chops are pretty good.

Can’t agree on Olive Garden, because their red sauce is terrible. Is it too much to ask for an Italian restaurant to have a descent red sauce?

My wife had the worst veal Marsala there she and I have ever tasted. Not sure how someone could mess it up that bad. I can’t remember if my dish was good or not, the memory of hers is too strong.

My wife had the same experience with the same dish. I didn't believe it was as bad as she said it was until I tasted it. It was not edible

A stuffed crust pizza from papa johns is probably the first thing I’d eat if my lactose intolerance was cured.

Several of the restaurants mentioned here have an offering or two that are simple enough that one can enjoy.

Take Olive Garden. Their salad is good and shrimp alfrefo.

Or Cracker Barrel. No need to expect to be awed by their menu. But it's solid for what it is.

I'll submit Raising Canes. I love it and always top off my sweet tea before leaving. And occasionally I get big tenders which is like double, bonus points

Didn’t know Cracker Barrel was frowned upon here, so that’s got to be my answer. I absolutely love Cracker Barrel. I don’t think I’ve ever taken a road trip anywhere that didn’t include a Cracker Barrel stop on the way.

True, but I’d rather enjoy my meal than deal with kids running around and people who think Olive Garden is the epitome of the Baton Rouge dining scene

I see several people say Olive Garden, I grew up eating my mother's and her family's Italian food, they were 100% Sicilian. Yes, if you don't have Italian lineage or you do and they were bad cooks, I'm related to those also, OG is more than acceptable.

But for me, It's like giving someone in Breaux Bridge Campbells chicken and rice gumbo and telling them how good it is. Not to them.

I rejected Walk Ons for years on the merit of their first few years, 2 years ago I was with a group and we went ,I was blown away at the quality, I'm a new patron. They get my vote.

have no idea if people here specifically shite on it, but I can get down with some Papa Johns.

I have no qualms about crushing a thin crust from Dominoes.

Haven't been in forever but it stands out in my mind as best steak from restaurants in that category. Same with a Salt Grass in Texas.

Same here but they opened one near my work and their food has been really good the times we have gone. The Zydeco shrimp salad is awesome.

Same, but sub the thick crust. Gotta order it well done though.

I can tolerate Olive Garden, but last time I went they no longer had the vodka sauce I liked. I usually just get the choose your own pasta dish, and they only had 3 or 4 sauces. Seems they used to have 7 or 8 different ones. I got the chicken alfredo and it was okay. Had to add a lot of pepper to it.

Of the mid-priced chain steakhouses, I've always liked Longhorn. Good pork chops and the flat iron steak is pretty good. Also a good lunch salad there. Never been to Texas Roadhouse.

I'm sure I could make Olive Garden work if there were a reason I was in one, but in over a decade, nobody has mentioned the place so I couldn't tell you. We have a good bit of casual Italian options in town (also, good pasta dishes in non-Italian spots), so I don't really see a purpose for Olive Garden unless you have an older family member that loves it or something like that.

For whatever reason, this has become my go-to late night drunk food over the past year. After years of not eating it

Baws expecting Commanders but the bar food is decent. I wish they would up their beer list.

I kind of think they have a good beer list/

For the big picture in regards to this thread, I hate that people use this lazy shtick about we need to either choose a bad chain or Commanders kind of place. LOL.

I will never step into an Olive Gard again. Just why? I get it maybe if you have nothing else worth a damn around you.

Olive Garden is one of my wife's guilty pleasures. She loves their chicken alfredo. So we go once every few years to satiate her cravings for it. We'd probably go more if there was one closer to us. Thankfully there is not. Once every few years is more than enough for me.

I got into this a couple weeks ago on this board.

On more of a local level, I’ve always thought Mothers got a bad rap from locals just bc tourist line up and pack the joint. Their food, especially their breakfast is pretty good.

Applebees..... JK that place deserves ALL the hate it gets. Truly awful. From the food to the wait staff. But those aren't even the worst part. The worst part is having to dine with the wild whites of west virgina and some bloods and crips

Any of the Pappa's family of restaurants.

Yia Yia Mary's and Little Pappa's on Shepherd Drive here in Houston were consistently in our rotation of kid friendly restaurants where my wife and I could find something to enjoy as well.

frick you COVID for leading to their demise.

Ya know, I was in New Orleans last weekend and my friend (who just moved back to LA after 10 years away, but who also has only spent a handful of times in NOLA) was telling someone from out of town how "amazing" Mother's is and how its a must-stop.

My initial thought was how it is tourist destination and always has a long line down the street, but then I reminded myself that I've never been so I shouldn't form an opinion based off what what is said here.

Even if it is good food, though, I don't know that the style of food it is makes standing in a line worth it. Maybe that's where the hate comes from.

I was in the kitchen of one a few weeks ago. Everything comes from a bag. They have those rolling beer troughs lined up across the kitchen with bags of food defrosting under water. It’s gross

I had a thin and crispy pizza from Pizza Hut not long ago and it was just fine and dandy. I love that cracker sort of crust. The meats were tasty and the accoutrements were fine. Cheese was fine and plentiful which I like. It hit the spot, but then again, a Totino's crispy pizza doctored up with meats and cheeses is also a guilty pleasure for me. I like that crust too.

Once in a while, old school is pretty darn good.

Mouton will be here soon to say that isn't true

In all seriousness, their food looks like it comes from bags. They've made no effort to pivot with the times and change their image either. A little re-brand and making some things in house might have helped their image, but maybe they did the cost analysis of trying to appeal to new generations vs. just riding it out as is until it goes under.
