It is the original OG of LA small breweries. There’s a reason it’s been around as long as it has (36 years) It’s good beer.

Abita brews mediocre beers.

Their beer is what it is
They have the resources to have a R&D group to produce some world class side projects. Alas, they just choose to be quite mediocre. To people passionate about beer, that reality is disappointing.

It's only good if you're a preferred member with shite taste in beer... other than that it is passable like BMC beers.

I like purple haze and the strawberry during crawfish season.

Yeah I like them both for that and sometimes during the summer. The sometimes do a good one off on tap or seasonal item that works.
Other than those, they choose to be average.

I miss the old Abita... irish red, Golden, mardi gras bock. i don't care how mediocre they were. Pre the craft beer explosion, it was cool to have a local seasonal beer for every occasion. Give me that over all these new places trying to out hop each other. Plus most of their beers go great with crawfish.

Abita Amber is about the best beer you can buy.

The Abita pub crawls 15 years ago or so were good times

Yeah I couldn't help myself on that one
As many have said, it's pretty mediocre. The Amber (their flagship) is alright, and they have a couple good seasonals like Mardi Gras Bach. A lot of what they make is garbage, though. Lots of wasted potential.
But in 2008 I needed a username and I was drinking an Amber at the time. So here we are.
