Yep. The original Jockamo was one of the worst beers brewed in the USA and maybe the worst IPA if Indian Wells' Amnesia IPA is not in the race. There are countless people who tried a Jockamo and decided that they "didn't like IPAs".

Which is funny because now it's a decent "juicy" IPA. Hop On is a good easy drinker IPA. I also like the Boot.
I think Abita is decent for a regional brewery that doesn't take risks or go outside of the box.

Clean Slate from Wayward Owl would like to jump in that debate.

Yeah wayward was really bad
Here is the thing w/ Abita. They, as much or more than any brewery in the state has the capabilities to produce some incredible beers but they won’t do it.
They sold out
Good for them, they are making a killing
But their beer is mediocre

If you drink a lot of it you will pee, like everything else on the market from Pappy to Ghost in the Machine

I agree. The new recipe Jockamo 2.0 is decent. Yes, Hop On is decent. But there are so many better quality options readily available these days. I've never had the Boot, so I can't weigh in on that one.

I never had that one. If it is in the conversation with the original Jockamo and Indian Wells Amnesia IPA, it must be unrelentingly bad.

Abita doesn’t make a single beer that’s better than a readily available local alternative, in the same style. Since that’s the case why would I ever order an abita unless it’s the only craft available?

I was at Abita one time for a Bday party with unlimited access to all of their taps for free. I left without a buzz. They even had some experimental beers and they were all bad.

You should not, even in deference to my buddy DPH.

Drinking at the brewery, for free, in the mid to late ‘90s was a fricking hoot. Head over on Saturday’s after lunch and get absolutely pie eyed. Those dudes were very damn fun to drink with. They wouldn’t even make us do the tour, we’d show up and they’d join us with the group after.

Yeah I did that a time or two during that timeframe.

Fresh Amber draft is nectar of the gods - goes well with or without food.
They discontinued Golden a few years ago - great bottled beer for tailgates and other mass consumption events.
AndyGator packs a real punch and is drinkable but I usually am ready to switch to another brand after 2 or 3.
Most of the rest are niche' brews requiring an acquired taste.
