If you had to list a top 5, which ones would make it? Let's say the criteria is that you have some foodie friend coming to town and you want to take them to a restaurant with innovative menus, and not your typical South Louisiana fare...good service is also a must.
What are the current options?

We should bring 08 into this discussion since he is an expert on BR cuisine
Oh wait.
I really enjoy BLDG 5

Elsie’s and Eliza are both this, but do it well. It’s not just fried shrimp baskets.
Cocha
Soji
Chow Yum Phat
BLDG5
Overpass merchant
ETA: not the top 5 overall, but some different choices that are great

My favorite is Umami, so that's #1 for me.
Elsie's is great.
Rouj Creole has been very good the few times that I've been (but the crab cakes appetizer was disappointing.)
FMB is very good but it's been awhile since I've been there.
Parrain's has always been super solid. When my dad comes down for lunch we always go there. It's not upscale but great food and service.
And I'm just going to say it, Ruth's. I know it's a chain, but it's a very well managed location with excellent service and food. The last time that I went we had reservation for 6:30 pm on a Friday and it was wall to wall.
I'm a long time fan of Gino's. I still need to try Nino's, Eliza, Beausoleil, Overpass Merchant, and Chow Yum Fat.

You know your town has terrible cuisine when a chain restaurant makes the top five.

He listed one chain and their first franchise was in BR...

My top 5 for a Baton Rouge foodie would be in no particular order:
Eliza
Beausoleil Coastal
Elsie’s Plate and Pie
Chow Yum Phat
Umami

For the particular criteria that you provide:
Overpass Merchant
Building 5
Beausoleil
Elsies
City Pork or Rocknsake
In no particular order...
Include typical south Louisiana fare and I'd include Eliza and an Italian Restaraunt.
ETA: From what I hear, Chow Yum Phat definitely fits. I just haven't been. The same can be said for Solera, but I've never really eaten there. Had drinks once and dessert another time.

Not necessarily my list of top five restaurants (though there would be considerable overlap), but that would be my top five for that criteria.

Chicken I dont remember the last time I saw you start a thread with a legit question like this
Also, this is such a tough question and I refuse to answer.

I’ll never understand the utterly lopsided downvoting on threads like this

I've been to Chow Yum Phat & Elsie's twice apiece, and I was never impressed with either. I know I'm in the minority, though.
