I still haven't made it to Rouj, but I can say that SoLou is dealing with the same thing. They did a great job with the space, both inside and out, but dear god, the wait staff is awful. And I'm an extremely low maintenance patron. But like you said, it has the feel of that they have never waited a table in their lives, and they are trying to follow a script they don't really understand

Yep exactly. That is spot on.
The girl at Rouj asked if I wanted gin or vodka when I ordered a margarita
I've only been to SoLou once, and the service wasn't good but it was when the first opened so I wasn't sure. For a place that seemed to have a lot of hype around opening, I actually never hear about it.

No the original was on N Broad close to Esplanade

The BR Ruth's may not be the original, but it is independently owned and that's why the menu varies from the other locations. They are one of the only locations that still cuts their own meat in house.

Would it be a fair statement to say that the restaurant scene in BR is at least respectable?

There are plenty of great places; you just have to know where to look.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned Ruffino's. It's not the best restaurant in BR but imo it's damn good.

That is notable, it would have been at the top of my list a few years ago.
Solera. Love the uniqueness of the menu, the service, so many things you can't get any other place in town. Strangely, their paella lack a strong socarrat, the crust of crunchy rice on the bottom and sides, there is some, but the dish needs a little work. Still, my favorite place to hang out, drink wine and sample the tapas. The pork cheeks are amazing. When my wife and I get our taste buds back from COVID, we will head there to celebrate.

He said the first “franchise” was in BR, which I interpreted as “second location”. Which is apparently true, and something I didn’t previously know.

Anyone who says otherwise has no idea what they are talking about. It’s not world class by any stretch of the imagination, but it’s solid, and actually quite good for a city its size.

It was on Broad Street in Gentilly. It had some tables and curtained booths like Crescent City Streak House. They then opened another Ruth's like two blocks away and both operated like that for a few years. First time I went was to the one with the booths.
