Was not impressed with Darrell’s

Tried Darrell’s in Lake Chuck. The hype that place gets is in no way justified, in my opinion. It was a decent lunch spot in Lake Charles but in no way compares to a good New Orleans Poboy shop. Overall, I don’t hate them, but I just can’t understand the cries to claim it’s the best Poboy. I’d be happy going back if I went with someone else, but I have no desire to ever try it again.
The bread - It was good for the first few bites but then the buttered top got to be too much. The flaky top was great but the underbelly of the bread was too soft. It also ended up being too much bread flavor, which along with the buttered top, overpowered the Poboy. It just in no way compares to good New Orleans bread. It just doesn’t. It’s not on the same level.
The meat and toppings - No complaint. They had enough meat and it was dressed adequately.
The menu - How can a Poboy shop not have a fried shrimp Poboy? And French fries for that matter. I’m more than happy not getting fried shrimp and fries, but how can you consider a place that doesn’t have these on the menu a true Poboy shop? No true Louisianaiana can deny this.
The atmosphere - Meh. Some of the best Poboy shops are hole in the walls. Not that it needs to, but you do need to point out that Darrell’s atmosphere brings nothing to the dining experience.

You go there to get a Darrell's Special or a Surf and Turf poboy...that's it..both of those are standouts...it's not supposed to be 5 star dining...it's a sandwich shop

No shite? I went there looking for a Brennan’s dining experience. Let me reevaluate my review…

Darrell's Special is an overrated sloppy mess.

Because it's a bar and the Special used to be that good.
It isn't that good anymore and certainly isn't that good since the old man died and they got clean and corporate.

Did you get the special or a ham poboy? If you didn't het the special, you wasted your trip and review...

+1 and it’s just lunch meat

I usually downvote your posts just because you are a terrible poster, but this one gets a downvote on its merits. Or lack thereof.

Miss the Doug’s special at the overpass George’s. Sad

Why am I a terrible poster? Please explain.
How is my post lacking merit? I gave a review and explained why I thought that way. Please explain what merits are lacking.

Maybe you should have tried the other Darrell’s.

It wouldn’t matter.
The other Darrell’s is in Jennings, and I’d rather a shrimp poboy from Bourbon St Cafe at the Shop Rite there, or dive an extra 10 minutes to C’est Bon for their fried shrimp poboy.

Or his other brother darrell’s.

Their bbq beef poboy w/ the jalapeño mayo is an underrated gem

Wait wait wait wait.
A “world famous po boy shop” doesn’t have a fricking fried shrimp poboy? This should be a staple on how po boy places are judged.

They don’t have any fried foods on their menu other than bags of potato chips. The restaurant literally doesn’t have a fryer.

Agreed. He's somebody's shitty alter. Possibly Lester Earl. Regardless, his post should be ignored and downvoted. I like a good alter but this dude is lame and terrible.

Not an alter, big chief. Why are my posts terrible?
