Unpopular food opinion - farm raised Salmon tastes better than wild caught

I can't be the only one that thinks this. Allegedly the wild stuff is healthier and had a more natural color but I think the fattier farm raised Atlantic salmon actually tastes better. Or maybe it's a texture thing because it's definitely more tender.

In every other seafood wild caught is much better tasting. I don't live in the PNW but I bet fresh wild salmon is way better than farmed

Salmon is only farm raised fish we buy when given a choice. I don’t notice much of a difference, but my wife much prefers farm over wild salmon.

Idk if it’s a farm vs wild or a Pacific vs Atlantic thing but one taste fishy beyond belief and one is ok.
I dont Love salmon besides lox

PNW Wild caught is vastly superior to atlantic farm raised in all respects including taste. Farm raised doesn't have much flavor at all.

Taste is subjective as much as people on occasion love to argue differently.
There are several foods I prefer the cheaper and frowned upon version/brand of a food. Nobody is right if they attempt to tell me that I am wrong.

Absolutely agree on PNW.

It all depends. If you can get the wild caught Alaskan King Salmon, especially the kind from the Copper River, that is spectacular. It is expensive and only caught in the late spring/early summer. Whole Foods sometimes gets it. I don't like the Sockeye as much.

This is absurd. There are multiple species of salmon, and there’s more recipes and ways to prepare salmon than most fish on the planet.

I do agree with you, I have eaten a bunch of salmon, including fresh caught Alaskan salmon, I still prefer the farm raised Atlantic, and specifically when bought from Costco , their salmon has won multiple awards, everybody likes different things, but costcos Atlantic salmon is by far my favorite

Here's another one.
Farm raised Asian shrimp are perfectly fine for po-boys and shite like that. I forget the name but there's a brand I'ved used that's pretty good.

Wild caught PNW salmon grilled on a cedar plank with some lemon pepper.....GOAT.

It would be easy to say you are wrong, but I like salmon, and the farm raised is fine with me.

what if I told you that wasnt even the best tasting king salmon in Alaska.
Yukon Kings > Kuskokwim Kings > ... > copper river kings.
brilliant marking campaign though.

I remember when I could buy Chinook for $10/lb but then they started calling it King Salmon and tripled the price.

Faroe Island farm raised salmon is pretty damn good. Can’t really compare it to other farm raised salmon.

It isn't allegedly.
It's a fact.
Watch you tube videos on the disgusting nature of these farms. That'll help the appetite.
I don't buy any fish. I catch my own.
The salmon I eat are actually feeding on other fish and aren't vaccinated or given antibiotics to treat bacteria.
Beautiful specimen right here

I think your unpopular opinion may have more to do with preference and perception.
We like our salmon cooked medium rare so the leaner, wild caught salmon is not affected by our final cook temp preference. Higher final cook temps with the leaner wild caught salmon can give the fish a dryer perception.
The fattier, farm raised salmon is more forgiving to higher, final cook temps and therefore, is perceived to be moist, even when cooked well-done.
An interesting way to view this is, to compare fat content of wild-caught & farm raised salmon to choice and prime beef.
From a purely fat-content perspective, wild-caught salmon (6-7% fat) is comparable to choice beef (4-10%) & farm-raised salmon (12-14%) is comparable to prime beef (8-13%) on average.
Now I'm merely providing a possibility for the perception that the higher fat content of wild-caught salmon could be the reason behind your perception. I am in no way comparing anything other characteristic other than fat. It's indisputable that fat=flavor & moisture.
We cook farm raised more often due to availability in our area but enjoy wild-caught when available.

This. It's the best salmon I've ever had.
Never had truly fresh Pacific though.
