For one, some Total Wine employees left the company and opened a one off mega wine store near me, and Total Wine got mad and opened one around the corner to try and put their former people out of business

that's just rude

Someone's upset because they thought they were getting a good 29 year-old scotch for under a hundred bucks.

Exactly!

It would be great if all liquors were required to put an origin marking on their bottle.

For example, every bottle of tequila is required to list their NOM (distiller registration number).

Found a spot in Youngsville called Nu Nu's supermarket

You found that huh? It’s not a local (arguably iconic) multi location grocer in Acadiana or anything? Just a new hidden secret you stumbled upon with a good liquor selection? I wonder if their boudin is any good?

Problem is not so much Total Wine, but Louisiana restrictions on what distributers ca bring in There are dozen of Irish Whiskeys you can buy in Texas and Tennessee and Florida that they just cannot get regularly in Louisiana. Calandos and Martin Wine has the same issues.

The difference is that Costco will sell it as their own Kirkland product. You know what it is, and you know it's gonna be good. Total Wine, on the other hand,

Total Wine is very upfront regarding which of their liquor is private labeled. The price tags all say “Spirits Direct” on them if it’s private labeled. Even on the website it says “Spirits Direct” in a bright yellow highlighted box right below the image.

LINK

And fwiw, much of their Spirits Direct stuff is great. The Star Blu vodka is a staple in my house.

Go to Wine-Seacher and hunt for the scotch you want. They will link you to sellers across the country who have it in stock. They also track prices, but you have to check to see if they ship to your state. It is great for hunting limited annual releases like the Laphroaig Cairdeas annual releases.

The hard to find/exotic/vintage is usually going to require you look overseas for sellers who ship to the US or look on the auctions. The big whiskey auctions are based in the UK, and most will ship to the US. It is amazing what you can find at the auctions. You can find old ones to collect and new ones to drink that you cannot find here. If you are looking for anything in particular, let me know, and I may be able to point you in a useful direction.

Laphroaig man myself, but Ardbeg Ugeidel is their best. I would have loved to have tried their recent limited edition aged in rye barrels. I think it was Arrrrrrrdbeg!, with a pirate on the label.

OP, How exactly do they push it? Did they walk up and make you put a bottle of Dalmore or Glenn Levitt back on the shelf? Did they try to talk you out of a purchase? Or did you accept their suggestion when one of the numerous staff offered to help you pick a Scotch?

Like the vaccine refusers you were bashing the other day when opining that they get what they deserve, shouldn’t you take responsibility for what you purchase?
Or are you just trying to suck arse to the local retailers who are butthurt over new competitors slicing up their revenue pie?

It's all a fricking scam. Yeah, maybe it's from Scotland, but don't think you're buying something real.

Can you drink it? Will it get you drunk?

If so, then it's real.

You sure do bitch and complain an awful lot.

For example, there is no distillery called Sheldaig.

The Sheldaig I found to be actually pretty decent, and I'm not a big scotch drinker.

I did think their scotch selection would have been bigger though, it's smaller as compared to their bourbon/rye/rum/tequila/vodka selections
