It's a label. Most distilleries sell bulk product to whomever wants it for relabel

Yes but those distilleries sell them the casks that don’t meet the standards worthy of their own label.

You are basically getting the garbage the distillery needs to get rid of or, at best bottom tier whisky that was distilled to be part of a blended scotch not its own bottle.

Ardbeg Ugeidel is my shite though

That’s a good one, but I’d rank Corryvrekan just a bit higher.

I think it was Arrrrrrrdbeg!, with a pirate on the label.

It’s good but a notch below Uigeadail and Corryvrekan

Ardbeg Drum (rum cask finish) is good as well

Did they walk up and make you put a bottle of Dalmore or Glenn Levitt back on the shelf

If they make you put Glenlivet back on the shelf they are doing you a favor.

They just opened one here. It’s incredible. They are cheaper than anyone by a mile and the 16% case discount is icing on the cake

They have no shame in selling craft beer beyond its expiration date.

I'm actually not complaining for myself. I have never bought any of those brands, but I was gifted with a bottle of Sheldaig a year ago. It didn't taste terrible.

I'm more concerned with the inexperienced whisky buyer who thinks they are getting something really authentic and have no idea they are buying something that is intended to fool them. If you read the labels closely, which I did this morning, you realize they are in fact deceptive.

But whatever. Drink the swill you like, and I will as well.

I'm guilty of getting roped into a Glen Fohdry Japanese Oak Cask bottle.

It wasn't bad either, but the gimmicky nature of it all should have been a red flag.

Again....I have no idea why anyone would spend serious money on a bottle without doing some degree of research. There are a ton of whiskey groups out there that are almost exclusively used to ask peoples opinion on a bottle. That plus google and basic common sense and no one should be getting "fooled"...but if people are getting fooled really cant blame TW for cashing in...especially since an inexperienced drinker isn't really gonna know and/or care. Not to mention a good percentage of the whiskey out there has BS stories on the label that is nothing but theatrics and marketing.

I agree but on the other hand….this is how an inexperienced whisky buyer becomes experienced.

Total Wine carries Taste Like Chicken Vodka(it doesn't really) and it's better and cheaper than Tito's.

I like Total Wine.

Total Wine, on the other hand, will give it some Scottish-sounding name and put it in a nice cylinder box and make it look like something fancy and straight out of the Highlands. It's total bullshite.

you just described most of the new bourbon/whisky market in the last 2 years. If it's not from one of the OG distilleries, there's almost a sure chance it's shite.

Not really. There are lots of distilleries with tons of product and sell it for other companies to use. If you drink bourbon you have likely drank some from MGP. Lots of the new name bottles buy from places like them and sell it until they have their own ready or they do it for good. There have and always will be some great barrels as well as bad.

As for TW it’s ok. It’s huge and has a ton and great prices, but it will absolutely wreck the local places without loyal customers. It’s kind of a racket and I’m sure there was/is fixing behind the scenes on the distributor and state level to help them. I have a liquor license and I cannot buy liquor from the distributor for less than what they sell it to the public for unless I buy a bunch of cases that happen to have a discount on multiples. Even then it’s sometimes less than a dollar cheaper. The more you buy the better price you get and that’s to be expected but if I were just a straight liquor store I’d be mad.

Sorry you’re from Lake Charles. I’d be pissed too.
