Abita Light. Much better since they reformulated.

WIld Acre has certainly upped their game, as their first few rounds of beers were TERRIBLE.

Great tap room and plenty of capital behind their operation.

It's ok in a pinch. Luckily most places carry much better beer these days.

I went in a London pub known for real cask ales, constantly rotating in fresh and different casks for a beer loving crowd.

Was surprised to see a six-pack of Shiner Bock on a shelf behind the bar. I think it was just for decoration.

You got one better? I doubt it.

I’ve had over 4000 better. But I still like a Shiner Bock here and there. You’re cute.

I imagine Shiner is/was a gateway beer to craft beer for many people, especially before the craft beer boom.

I know it was for me.

Haven’t had one in forever though, as today most places will have at least a decent local pale ale on tap.

You can always tell when these beer threads originate in the OT.

I prefer Sam Adams Winter Lager to Shiner Bock.

Unless it's a different style than German bock, beer people don't consider it in the top 100 for the style.

LINK

Actually, the style I had was correct and it's the 172nd ranked German bock. Rated as "ok" as a beer. So, yeah.

Had it the first time in the early 90’s on tap at a wedding reception, it seemed better then.

This beer has been one of my favorites since I lived in Texas in the early 90's.

As a young father, I would tell my 3 year old son to "Get me a Shiner Bock, baby", from the fridge. I guess I must have had a drinking problem because my 28 year old son's nickname is Shiner, to this day,

My only regret is that I have but one downvote to give.

Shiner Bock was one of the first micro brews I fell in love with, probably close to 20 years ago. It was impossible to get in SE Missouri at the time, so it became kind of my holy grail of beers when I managed to find it somewhere. I still buy it a couple times a year.

Meh, it is/was just another ubiquitous beer that even the anti anything new crowd drinks. But I'm in Texas so it was always at any bar. I drank it back in the day as it is a half step above bud/miller/coors but never considered it a gateway to anything more than drunkenness.
