I don't know if this was the same day, but I was in Corporate Brew once when a bunch of FBDers came in and said they just came from PH. It was LA Brewers week, and a lot of bars were doing events for it. PH was the only one to charge cover for their event, and I also think one of the only ones charging for the small pours. They got it catered by City Pork, which is what they claimed the cover was for. Odd since they serve food there.

FBDers said they released a beer every half hour, and each pour was $8. So every 30 minutes, everyone in the place lined up to wait for their $8 pour. So you're paying $8/pour, plus cover. Someone can chime in here, but I think the cover was $30(?)

Then to top it all off, they had live body painting which consisted of a few Penthouse strippers entirely naked getting their bodies painted. One person said he had to convince his wife to go to a beer event (and assure her these events were a good time). Once they got there, she got to look straight at a stripper's vagina

The guys who opened/manage the place are really, really good people. But I have never been a fan of the place myself.

This has to be a health code violation....right?

If not, shouldn't it be?

Here's my story.

Went twice to try and eat. BOTH TIMES service was so abysmal I left after one drink.

I guess the chain restaurants and my lack of culinary adventure are why PH went out of business? GTFO.

I will tell you one thing that letter did accomplish. I will never eat at another restaurant he opens. Good job there Chef.

I asked if they were sure the girls were entirely nude, and he said they were. I hope he was exaggerating though because you can't even have bottomless women in the actual strip club..

I'm sure it was passed off as art as opposed to entertainment, or something. I'm just glad I skipped that part and went to CB&D instead.

Last time I set foot in the place too. It was awful. There was a 30 minute wait to buy a $10 pint of Ghost after said $30 cover charge. The brewers and brewery owners were pissed. They all ended up at CBD afterward bitching about it too.

Didn’t the original owners get hit with some type of music licensing lawsuit for music that played there?

Re-reading that letter. Blaming it on BR’s culinary standards is BS and offensive.
Start with cleaning the damn place and picking up junk.

After reading the reviews, they should pair up with Centerfold's and throw a barn burner to shut the place down..

Maybe one of the ambulance chasers who continue to drive up our insurance rates will make it work for them...as one already has nearby.

The location with its visibility to the interstate, might make a good business location for a bloodsucking lawyer, similar to what Gordon (I think) has done with a new office on that same stretch of Corporate.

Can you fit a basketball court inside the Pelican House building, though. Will its roof support a giant cross?

Last time I went I was sitting at the bar drinking while the S/O played on her phone. We were sitting talking and drinking for maybe 45 minutes. Then the bartender informs me that they will be adding a $5 cover to my bill because they have a band at 6. I look at my phone and see it is only 4PM..... like WTF....

We left right after and this was before CBD existed so we ended up at Chimes.

it kills me to see places like fricking Outback and Saltgrass packed every night when there are much better local places that don't get as much crowd.

The reason why these places are packed is two fold.
One is name recognition. Do a better job of it if you want to succeed.
Two is consistency. 90% of the time, you are going to go into one of the chains and get the same same thing you ordered last time and it will be done just like last time. That is a huge one that many local places fall off the cliff at. Both of these things seemed to be a problem for PH.

That and the way overspending at the beginning and being too cash poor to run the place properly.

Probably also get a lot of people travelling through for business going to those chains right off the interstate and real close to hotels.
