Wasn't a bad letter until his bs at the end. That is why I don't like "chefs". Thanks to food network and their scripted shows, every one of the fools are self important douche bags who think they have been in a war zone all night while they put stuff on a plate.

Lol, I think the same thing but mainly due to crappy family members. Blaming chains is not the answer to this problem stated in the letter though

What was so "creative" about this place? I went there once and it was nothing special and the service was sub-par.

I like the way their menu looks outside of the BBQ. Some interesting apps, salads, and entrees. Not just the standard fair. Things like smoked octopus is cool to see on a menu.

Ah, maybe so. I just saw his reply back to me where I mentioned BRQ.

Can't comment on The Pelican House menu. Never ate there. Their new menu did look interesting and I wanted to try it but never got the chance. Never will now.

Pretty much. I mean it kills me to see places like fricking Outback and Saltgrass packed every night when there are much better local places that don't get as much crowd. Buttttt, those restaurants were were just a small fraction of the reason Pelican House failed.

that letter is cringe worthy. Never seen a failed business owner come across as such a sanctimonious prick. Maybe it's your fault the business failed?

It must have been shocking to realize their would be long hours and unforeseen expenses in the restaurant business?

You can't serve the slop they called food and lecture people. You can do one or the other, but not both.

Yeah, this letter was not really the place to admonish BR folks for their restaurant choices. Kind of comes across like he's looking for an excuse as to why his business failed.

That being said, I don't disagree with him.

Every time I've eaten at Pelican House was a total disappointment. this is why they fail.

Uber has killed it

Hard to justify having cops stake out people leaving the Bulldog on a Wednesday night when over half of the people in the bar got there via Uber

since I've moved to BR I think I've seen them set up shop at the CC's a couple of times to watch people leaving. it's a shame our law enforcement decides to enforce the laws(that can put people in jail) based on how lucrative it is for city coffers.

Chef Gavin Jobe,

You need to read The E-Myth Revisited: Why Most Small Businesses Don't Work and What to Do About It

You created a job, not a business.

Who was left of the original management/ownership? There were some buyouts along the way, weren't there?

I remember going one mid afternoon (3-4pmish) with the boss, and they said it was either a 5 or $10 (can't remember) cover.

Boss asked "Why, is there a band playing or something?"

They said No, just a cover.

So boss said "So we have to pay you to drink the beer we're going to pay for?"

They said Yea.

He laughed and turned around and left. We went over and shot the shite with Tom at Coperate, and spent Damn near $100 there.....

So, That's my only Pelican House story.
