I'm surprised it made it this long.

Whoa didn't they just switch to a family friendly restaurant recently?

Sucks to see a local business close
Just don't think the concept ever took off like they wanted to
Good guys, none the less

Remember when all three restaurants opened....now they are all closed or gone

Defitintely goes to show that for a beer place it’s not the quantity of taps it’s the quality.

Went there this past fall.
Place was dirty. Ceiling paint was peeling off.
The thing that made me think “these guys don’t care” was the load of old supplies, furniture and miscellaneous junk behind and on top of the unused bar right at the entrance.
Not having money for repairs is one thing. Just leaving clutter is unacceptable.
Maybe good guys but not good business owners.
Re-reading that letter. Blaming it on BR’s culinary standards is BS and offensive.
Start with cleaning the damn place and picking up junk.

Corporate Blvd has to be the worst place to open a business in BR. It's hard as hell to get to and everything down that strip is awful.

The food there actually got better and better over the years. Gavin Jobe is a really good chef. I hope he opens another place in BR...
Its unfortunate, but the concept was never going to work in that location. That building is huge, and even when there was a crowd it still felt empty. Going to a restaurant instead of a bar was the right idea, but it was too late and it felt like a half-assed attempt to correct the concept.

He says the same exact thing this board says everyday. Maybe a good example of "You're not wrong, you're just an a-hole."
quote:
"Baton Rouge, my hometown, I love you, but I implore you to raise your culinary standards," he said. "There are a few great chefs in this town making great food. Support those people!
"Stop flocking to chain restaurants. Stop asking chefs to change their menus, and stop accepting mediocrity. Ask for seasonal, local (when it makes sense), creative food, and embrace the chefs and restaurants who deliver it to you.
"We are only an hour away from New Orleans, one of the greatest food cities on Earth, and often times, it is hard to tell. Go there, eat the food, and come back with those expectations."

Agreed. They just had too much of an identity crisis and too many missteps early on. It turned a lot of people (myself included) off to the place before they could really figure out what they wanted to be.

Well said.
Or maybe not even an a-hole but slightly deluded as to the problems with his particular establishment.

Should have just left the letter as a thank you to the customers and not insult the people of BR.

Are the cops still hawking that area at night?

Yeah. Letter reads like a bunch of sour grapes and comes across as little more than a sad cop out.

The BR dui scene has really slowed down. Once everyone has 1 or 2, they start getting tough to hand out

I agree with his sentiment about supporting chef-owned, creative restaurants. That said, like my recent BRQ review, they should be taken to task when they fall short of expectations.

I do agree with this. It was a twist I didn't see coming as I read the letter.

It's the old Macaroni Grill dining room and I personally don't like the layout of the dining room at all, especially the entrance.

What was so "creative" about this place? I went there once and it was nothing special and the service was sub-par.
