A little while ago, I picked up a to go sandwich at a well known chain restaurant. When I got home, I bit down on something hard in the sandwich, took it apart, and found about 1/3rd of a toothpick in the sandwich.

Would you do anything?

I'm thinking of calling the management to let them know, but if it was somehow a honest mistake, would feel bad about getting someone in trouble.

I think by posting this ordeal to the OT, you've done all you really can do.

ETA: I just realized I zoned out to the point where I thought I was on the OT...still comment stands

Don’t eat it.

Be a man. Throw it out and go on about your day.

This is what’s wrong with society. You feel the need to report a toothpick to management and post about it on TD. Have your boyfriend check for toothpicks while he is cutting the crust off for you Soi boi.

You should probably do this. If you dont want anyone to get in trouble, just dont tell them your name or when you went.

Sounds like an honest mistake on their part. I would call just to let them know. I don't think anyone would get in trouble. I'm assuming they use the toothpicks to hold the sandwich together when they are pressing it. Maybe they need longer toothpicks so they can pull them out easier?

How do we know that you weren't negligent in the handling and transportation of said sandwich resulting in the broken and hidden toothpick

Use it to get the turkey out of your teeth and be glad they didn’t charge you for it.

They will most likely apologize and ask you to return and to notify management on you next visit. They may discount your next purchase to fix the negative experience you suffered.

That, or they will tell you stick the toothpick up your arse. Either way, you have nothing to lose.

What type of sandwich are we talking about here? It wasn't a club sandwich, was it?

quote:

I ordered a club sandwich, but I'm not even a member. "I like my sandwiches with three pieces of bread." "Well, so do I!" "Then let's form a club." "OK, but we need some more stipulations. Instead of cutting the sandwich once, let's cut it again. Yes, four triangles, arranged in a circle, and in the middle we will dump chips." "How do you feel about frilly toothpicks?" "I'm for 'em!" "Well, this club is formed."

I once bit into a box staple in a Wendy's burger. I showed the manager and he gave me a new burger.

We told the manager at a Mexican restaurant that a member of our party had a piece of glass in her side container of salad dressing. He went on and on about how that wasn’t possible they use plastic for drinks, blah blah.

We were like, whatever dude, no one was hurt and we don’t won’t anything. Just letting you know you have glass in your dressing.

They had a girl pretend to clean and wipe tables in our area, obviously trying to overhear our sinister plot, until we left. They didn’t even offer to comp the meal of the woman who spit out the hunk of glass.

We had a similar experience at a thia restaurant. My wife pulled a hairball out of her curry so we complained. The manager brought the kitchen staff out to show they all had hairnets on so it wasn't possible it came from them. Whatever dude.....we walked out and never went back.

It’s weird when you’re not at all trying to get some kind of freebie and just want to let them know.

I bought a rack of lamb this past year from Costco and when I opened it, it was totally rancid. It was in a huge display and they all had the same dates on them, so I called to let the meat department know. I wasn’t driving out there for a refund (which I should have - it wasn’t cheap), but was polite and told them the display might all be that way.

The dude on the phone said “okay???” And hung up on me.

I will never I understand these types of actions from a restaurant.

It's far more beneficial, in the long run, to comp or replace the item than it is to disagree with the customer.

I'm sure the litigious society we live in has some influence on these types of reactions but, if no one is hurt or injured, then you are pushing away the customer base your business depends on to keep the doors open.

I also found a couple of small steel BBs, about the size of shotgun pellets, in a Saulisbury steak at Luby's. Didn't chip a tooth or anything.

It was near closing, and the manager was doing the books at a booth. I walked up and said, "I think they killed the cow for the Saulisbury steak with 12 gauge No. 6 shot" and dropped the pellets on his table.

He just looked at me in stunned silence, and we walked out without another word.
