Making a butternut squash & bacon soup this weekend, and I’m looking for an awesome panini style grilled cheese sandwich to go with it.

Update:
Since many (or most) of you consider a meat added to a grilled cheese negates it as a grilled cheese, I’ll say this.

I made this smoked tomato bisque with a homemade bacon grilled cheese sandwich.

I want to step up the sandwich, so I am now going to make a butternut & homemade bacon soup with a conque monsieur (and/or madame) sandwich. I am going to substitute the ham on the sandwich with homemade bacon.

cracker barrel or kraft extra sharp cheddar block cuts into 3 or 5 pieces that are as thick as your comfortable with.

roman meal wheat bread if its available at your walmart

butter in the pan cook on medium low heat. cant go too hi or you will make those thick pieces of cheese cook unevenly.

Not going to lie, I'm a big fan of using mayonnaise to brown my bread instead of butter.

I use butter mostly but I’ve tried mayo and it’s pretty good.

I just made one of my kids Texas Toast grilled cheese with gruyere. Salt and pepper and sliced tomatoes.

Was coming to post the same. I can't go back to butter once I used the mayo method. Duke's mayo to be exact.

Look for Roy Choi's grilled cheese sandwich from the Netflix series "The Chef Show"... 4 chreses, sourdough, & butter!

Start by frying about 6-8 slices of thick-cut bacon .. soft, not crispy. Use the bacon grease for browning the sandwich rather than just butter, but butter the bread before browning it in the bacon grease. I use Mrs, Baird Homey Wheat, but the thicker the slices the better.

Brown one side of the two slices of breach slightly and then flip to the other sides before adding the cheese. Nice for the bread to be crunchy both inside and outside the sandwich.

I use sharp cheddar, shredded rather than sliced. I think it melts more evenly.. Let the cheese melt a bit open-face, then add a slice or two of the bacon before stacking the two slices for the final minute or two or cooking. Sometimes I just use the bacon slices and sometimes I dice the bacon after cooking it, so get an even distribution throughout the sandwich.

So obvious, yet so brilliant!
I have never tried the in-AND-inside-out grilled cheese technique before, but will ASAP. Thanks for posting that vid

Add a little garlic powder and you’re done.

Smoked gouda and a bit of sharp cheddar, sliced tomato and roasted hatch chili peppers which I always have in the freezer. Melt the butter in the pan rather than spreading it on the bread.

I made that one as well - back when the movie was still new. Totally forgot about it. Agree it’s fantastic. Sourdough was a good choice.

I just bought the pre-sliced sourdough.

Some of y'all are making some blasphemous grilled cheeses. Tomato don't go on a grilled cheese.

Just need a bread you like (White bread GOAT for this)
Brown with mayo or butter
A melty cheese (American/Muenster)
A sharp or tangy cheese (Sharp Cheddar/Swiss)

Make sure harder cheeses are shredded

That's it.

Then you're not looking for grilled cheese. You're looking for a sandwhich with cheese on it
