I New Orleans, I prefer La Boulangerie. In Baton Rouge, Strands Cafe is the hidden king cake gem.

I'm preferential to Antoine's, although they have used a little too much icing in recent years. They tend to stay moist longer than a lot of other places, and I really don't like stale king cake.
Same, I always try to get the ones with the least icing on them. Just never order one online from them. They don't know how to ship a king cake.

While picking up some last minute items at the grocery after dinner last night, I grabbed a Rouses small king cake so I'd be prepared this morning. For $6, it was very good for me. Very moist and lots of cinnamon.
I've still yet to have a king cake I prefer to his.

Much better than that sugary goop that Manny puts on his

Navarre's in Springfield has the best king cakes I've ever had.
I came here to post this. Its a small bakery in the middle of nowhere. But wow, the king cakes they make are amazing. Best I've had.

I don't see the point in falling for Manny's false demand that he's created....he purposefully makes way less king cakes than demanded so that people wait 2 hours in line to get a "Randazzos" product
There is no "false" demand. As others have said, it only gets crazy busy that last weekend. What happens in general is that he has only so many people and so much space to make cakes and they ship a shite load of cakes. He could easily sell out just in shipping orders alone if he wanted to.
FYI, Haydel's is running three "pop ups" this year. Magazine St, Metairie Rd, and Veterans.

This. "False demand"
That place is as loaded as it can be with king cakes every year. He can only make so many.

Maurice's are the best, hands down.
All these other cakes in a lighter weight class.

They were unloading a truck load at the Magazine location yesterday morning. They also pop up there for the Christmas season. So that sno ball stand almost gets used year round now.

Got a damn strong KC.
I'll add Bread on Oak. Delicious.
Anyone get the Uber email today? $15 for a Haydel's KC delivered.

Randazzo's is the best, and it has come to the point where it is hated on cause it's gotten the most pub

The only place that compares to Mannys is Haydels if you get "Da Parish". But it is pretty much a Manny clone because they use the white icing

Just had the bavarian cream from Rouse's. I'd give it a 7/10. Rouse's cakes are the best grocery store cake imo. They use a good amount of cinnamon and I enjoy their icing. I'd buy this one again without hesitation.
I RA'd for a sticky. I'd like for this thread to become a review thread. I want to see the different options from around town.

Definitely agree that for the price and for being a grocery store king cake that Rouses is the best.

Assuming you live in Alabama I recommend ordering one from Nola.
