Dong Phuong and Randazzos are the best in my opinion, but nothing compares to a fresh Manny (or Camellia City) Randazzo from the bakery (not prepackaged).

Twins is good. One step below a Dong Phuong and Randazzo but definitely higher than grocery store king cakes.

Oak Point is the best grocery store king cake but it’s still about 3 steps below DP and Randazzos.

In the end, I’ll eat any of them and be happy. But the fresh Randazzo cannot be beat.

Yes!

Haydel's
Manny Randazzo
Joe's Donut version Not the baked one
Caludas
Tartine
Brennans

Dong Phoung just doesn't taste like a king cake to me. It's more of a coffee cake texture.

Nannette Mayhall's is best king cake I've ever had and it's not even close.

I am only able to determine that she’s in BR, and apparently fell over the holidays.

Care to share some Intel? A cottage bakery that’s escaped my attention makes me sad. If she’s back and running, I’ll give her a try.

She's a pastry chef in Baton Rouge. Makes king cakes out of her house. Unfortunately, you have to know her or know someone who knows her in order to get one. They are in very short supply and she can very finicky over who she bakes them for.

St. Bruno has a really good one. Sold @ Southside Produce, Iverstines, Calandros, Cannatella’s, Crown Bistro that I know of.

Edit - mini cakes drop Thursday, rest on Fridays.

Joes Donut

I’m guessing you mean Joe” Cafe.

I haven’t had their baked one, but I have their fried one with cream cheese in my house right now. It’s literally a donut. Still good, but not a king cake.

As a side bit, a lot of king cakes don’t have any cinnamon anymore. No clue why that’s where they all decided to cheapen out.

Yes, much better.
I didnt care for the texture of their bread or how whipped the icing was.

There are several that I've tried and liked better. Berrytown and Douglicious Donuts in Hammond both make a really one.

Navarre's is king on this side of the Amite River.

Agree and I don't really do lines. Seems like every time I go past there is a huge line. Or they're already out and closed.

My wife gets them at Antoine's on the west bank somewhere and its really good. I really like Susans in BSL and Pollmans in Mobile is darn good too.

I wanna try that one from Hattiesburg. The blueberry cream cheese one that's gone viral.

Dong Phuong is a very good king cake. In my opinion the social media craze isn't necessarily warranted.

The top of my list was Cannatas Gooey Butter Snickerdoodle, but this year they have fallen off big time. Dry dough, barely any filling. Just not what they used to be.

Tartine is really good.
Fauntleroy's Fixins is right there also.

Those were two new ones I've had this year that did not disappoint.

No love for O’Delice on Magazine? Very good assuming you can get past the King Cake Nazi lady.
